Serpentine Cider & Smokehouse — Restaurant in San Diego

I was craving a cider and wanted to get out of the house on a beautiful sunny winter afternoon. During a search for Cideries, I was lucky enough to find " Serpentine Cidery" and....Smoke House!?!?! WHAT!?!?! Now you definitely have my attention! Two of my favorite indulgences under one roof...? I read through all of the fantastic reviews and decided this was the place! Excited, but very skeptical , I rounded up the kid and husband to go sample their offerings. I've lived in San Diego for over 20 years and I have more often than not been disappointed by the BBQ spots here. My family is from the south, I am a trained Chef and have been in the industry over 15 years. I know a little something about good BBQ 😉 ! Needless to say, my expectations are high when it come to this particular culinary delight. Well....I must say everything about both the Ciders and BBQ exceeded my expectations. Everything was extraordinary! The Strawberry Rhubarb 🍓 was delicious and wow, the German chocolate cider was creative, decadent and super yummy. Pork belly was crispy, well seasoned, perfectly rendered melt in your mouth goodness. Crack Beans...appropriately named...so smokey, so peppery, so flavorful. We also enjoyed the spicy cucumbers, Cajun fries and buffalo wings. No complaints, only full bellies and satisfaction. I must mention the great service and friendly faces. This place offers a great selection of meads, ciders, beers, and food! They offer both indoor and outdoor seating, and also dog friendly. The atmosphere is very chill and relaxed, and hip at the same time. A great hangout spot to be with friends and family. The servers, Fatima and Sarah are very friendly. They were so easy to talk to and engage in conversation. They made us feel welcomed.

I’ll start with the food first because it was the highlight of my visit! The cost to quality ratio is the best in San Diego for me by far. They offer combo deals called “TV Dinners”, which consist of a choice of meat and two sides, all for only $18.50!

My wife and I both had a TV Dinner combo. I had the rib tips with slaw and brisket chili. My wife went with brisket with mac & cheese and bean crack. Both meats were very flavorful and cooked to perfection. Very juicy and tender. I haven’t had smoked meat this good since my visit to Texas last year! All of the sides exceeded my expectations, except the slaw which I thought was just basic.

We had two flights of ciders and were able to taste 9 different flavors. All of the flavors were very tasty and crafted very well. Even the experimental ciders were surprisingly very good.

We absolutely adore Serpentine Cider! From the minute you walk in, it’s a warm and welcoming environment. There’s plenty of seating options depending on what you’re in the mood for (enjoying the weather outside, sitting around a table with friends, or pulling up to the large bar to talk to one of the amazing staff or owners)! We first went to Serpentine for their LOTR trivia and have since done two more events! They are so, so fun - the owners partner with local vendors to have interesting raffles or artists present with their crafts, and the food they serve…I can’t even begin. I’m a BBQ snob being from a southern family and this is hands down some of the best I’ve ever eaten. The cider is dry and crisp, a more British style, but with plenty of specials and options for every palate. I feel like I’ve found my community at these events and look forward to each one! We can’t wait to bring more of our friends and family for an afternoon of good meals, good drinks, and good times.
