As a San Diego native who spent the last few years in Chula Vista with occasional trips into Mexico I like to think I have a touch of authority when I write this review.
Let me say that there is only one situation where this is a good place to go. It is when you live within 2 blocks of this location and you are too drunk to put on your shoes let alone drive anywhere.
In all seriousness if you are going to be very inebriated, say coming from the Lamplighter when they close for four hours(2AM-6AM) go ahead and walk to MXN you won't be disappointed because hey you just spent too much money for a beer.
This place is cheap so hey you can get filled up really easily, however even though it is inexpensive, it is still NOT worth it if you are not incredibly inebriated. If you inebriated I suggest the mini carnitas tacos. Make sure they do not forget the guac because they like to forget that.
Now some alternatives for Mexican food in the area. If you have money, and either can drive or do not mind some serious exercise head West down Washington St. and go to El Indio, might I suggest their far superior flautas. If you want something even closer and easier to get to I would suggest heading East along Washington and trying out El Cuervo as their burritos are also fairly inexpensive but far tastier and you can get some cheap delicious Mexican beer.
In conclusion if you can get anywhere else, go the someplace else. I promise you a...

My gal made an order over the phone and after a female employee gave her attitude and made the transaction more complicated than it needed to be we discovered that the order she specifically requested without dairy due to medical reasons still contained sour cream. Now I'm not one to complain however upon re-entering the establishment the woman from earlier could be heard speaking Spanish of which I speak none however my gal is fluent having grown up learning from her grandmother and mother. Needless to say the female employee having received no mistreatment was spewing insulting comments about my woman. This is something I will not tolerate.
Fortunately another employee and from my understand the owner was able to assist and correct the discrepancy and my gal was pleased with the end result.
I am stumped on how to rate this establishment because poor service at a place that should have minimal interaction with the customer is uncalled for but one bad employee is no cause to hate an establishment with that in mind and the fact that my gal enjoyed the food and the discrepancy was fixed I see it fit to give a 4 star rating.
After reading a few other reviews I discovered the female employee seems to be the cause of basically all of the complications once she is fired my review will return to 4 stars but for now...
Read moreUpdate on my poor review: the quality is still uneven, but I'm getting a few good buenos dias burritos here and there. I think they've undergone many staff changes over the past couple of (covid) years, which is understandable. I hope they get some stable staff and return to the same great quality I've enjoyed for years.
I'm sorry to say that in the last month (starting maybe in November/early December 2021) the quality of the food has gone steeply downhill. I only get the Buenos Dias burrito, so I can't speak to anything else, but it has changed so much that the last one I brought home (12/26 or 26th) I threw away: and I don't throw away or waste food. I hope the Owner sees this and acts on it. I only go during the daytime, usually early afternoon. My favorite burrito in the world is now super greasy, mushy, and the flavor of the fat, probably in the fries, has changed dramatically. Rancid, gross, stale fry oil maybe . The next paragraph starts my first review a year ago, which I have now edited. ☹️
I can't review any other food except the amazing Buenos Dias burrito, the giant breakfast burrito that is consistently amazing. The eggs are fresh, the bacon is good quality, and the french fries stuffed inside are just the right...
