Read moreI am Middle-astern Muslim gay guy from Turkey. I am an immigrant here in US. My partner is Caucasian American.Me and boyfriend went to the Urban Mo’s bar/Restaurant during Ramadan (muslims are not allowed to drink any Alcohol during Ramadan) for having dinner on a Saturday evening. Security didn’t give any problem when my boyfriend enters to the bar, but he hold me and stare me head to toe and he said he cant get me inside. When i asked again why not he was clearly looking for a reason and suddenly he pointed the Djarum Clove Cigarette package on my hand and he said i cant let you inside with that package. I told him these cigarettes are sold legally in 7/eleven, they are not something illegal or anything. I told him that “you are not letting me in to the bar every-time i come in to this restaurant/bar, is that because of my race or anything” he didn't respond just give me that ugly smile and let other people coming into the bar. I asked for a manager to talk about this. He didn’t let me speak to a Manager. My partner and i left the place since i was not allowed to get in inside the restaurant/bar. I called the restaurant via and talked to their manager. Manager said that he doesn't see any reason to not to let me in with clove cigarette package and its okay to smoke at the door. And he said please feel free to come back in anytime you like. I called Manager back to ask that security name to report BBB. Same manager came on the phone and he gave me the name of that security and this time Manager changed also his mind and said Clove Cigarettes are not allowed at out restaurant patio we allow only cigarettes. This is clearly a discrimination and happening because of my race. They clearly don’t want me in their restaurant/bar and i don't see any reason then i am middle-astern. I am very offended because I deserve to be treated equally as like other tax...
Read moreSo my big warning to you is that the portion are HUGE!!! I am putting that up front in case you are just skimming through and are wondering what to order.
So I just went here with a group of people from work to get dinner and watch the Wednesday night Dreamgirls Drag show and I have noting but good things to say about the place.
As I said the food was huge portions and the things like the Nachos could feed 10 people and didn't have those sneaky chips that end up without toppings, every one had toppings and it was all yummy. I got the French Dip sandwich and it came with fries and was too much to eat with the shared nachos and I would have considered sharing an entrée if I had known.
The staff was really friendly from the security at the door to the tech crew and of course the servers. Everyone was helpful when I had questions and seemed to be having a good night. They didn't have that "I hate my life" vibe you get from some places.
The show itself was good. For the price you can't beat it and it was about what you would expect for a smaller weeknight show. When I went, it was $16 for the cover and we bought a table for 4 for then $64.
One thing I wish they would have done is told us when each of the performers was doing their last performance for the night. If I had known I would have given out the rest of my dollars or if they had a bucket after the show that could be split between all the performers I know several people in my group would have been happy to give the rest of our dollars we had been holding onto to the performers.
The bar has a good atmosphere, reasonable prices, and would be a nice place to meet up for a first date or to hang out with friends. It was clean and modern and felt safe and comfortable for everyone.
I recommend you try going here if you are in SD if you are looking for a gay bar or if you are looking...
