Unhygienic Service and Unprofessional Behavior at April Jean
I don’t usually leave reviews, but this time I feel a responsibility to speak up—for public health reasons more than anything else.
About 30 minutes ago, I visited April Jean, a bar I’ve genuinely enjoyed and supported for a long time—typically twice a week for a quiet Japanese whisky after work.
Tonight, I asked for my usual. The bartender took an empty glass from the fridge and placed three fingers inside it before pouring the whisky. This is simply unhygienic—especially considering she had just been handling cash and credit cards, with no handwashing in between.
I calmly and politely asked if she could change the glass. Her response: “Thanks for telling me how to do my job.” Then she added: “I’m not serving you.”
Asking for a clean glass is not rude—it’s a basic, reasonable expectation in any food or drink establishment. Her defensive and dismissive attitude, combined with poor hygiene practices, was deeply disappointing.
This is not about a personal grudge—it’s about public safety and professionalism. No one should be served a drink in a glass that’s been touched on the inside by bare hands.
Unless proper training and hygiene standards are addressed at April Jean, I won’t be returning—and I hope others seriously consider this experience...
Read moreCocktails are really innovative and quite nice. Tried the watermelon tequila and the Tracy Lu. Very balanced flavor and not too strong or watered down. One note for the watermelon cocktail is it isn’t too sweet, so if you’re looking for something very fruity, this isn’t it. However, there was a lot of watermelon flavor. Our only critique was there was a lot of open space in the bar with few tables, so as it got more crowded people seemed to be turned away from the fact there was no place to “sit” or “hang around.” Given they’re new, hopefully they’ll consider adding a couple more just standing tables as they get...
Read moreThe worst bar experience I’ve had in San Francisco. The bartenders were extremely unfriendly and didn’t even smile once. The cocktails tasted terrible — poorly made with what seemed like cheap alcohol (there were 2 cocktails with tequila, 1 - April Jean or something and the other was watermelon with tequila. these are the first 2 cocktails on the menu) and clearly prepared without care. I was genuinely surprised that people still go to this place. Although the bar is supposed to be open until 2am, they started kicking everyone out at 1:46. Very disappointing overall. I won’t be...
