I guess its safe to order if you're looking for a deal for lunch and in a time crunch. I ordered a beer and 3 item bento for dinner - with karage, sukiyaki, and age dashi tofu. Also got some chu-toro sashimi. Nothing special about the food that came out. Fried chicken is fried...sauces have a nice flavor, but unfortunately ends there. The sashimi was fishy tasting and watery...probably to "wash" out the fishy-ness. Gross AF. Service here isn't great either. As the first customer to come in for dinner and only one other customer behind me, I really enjoyed how the server told me to wait before taking my order...Taking the other person's order - then giving priority to finish up takeout orders with NO ONE even waiting...and then taking my order. The only time she seemed sincere was when it was time to hand over the check. Typical. First star: because the food is edible. Second star for the sushi chef's service, which was okay. But overall - think it might be a better idea to try...

Very disappointed! Japanese food is my favorite. I came based on the reviews I read here. Not sure where the disconnect is I have had Age Dashi tofu many times and this is the first time I had it that it was not good. Very boring. I also ordered all veg tempura no broccoli or eggplant. I get my box and it has 3 pieces of broccoli. They take it back and give me only sweet potato - no other vegetables. Really - no carrot, no onion, no mushroom, no green bean. The menu says vegetable tempura not you only get broccoli and sweet potato. I like sw potato tempura, but the real problem is that it was very greasy and soggy with very little batter. The salad was very good -the best part. I definitely would NOT reccomend this restaurant and will not go back! I feel like I wasted my money that I could have used to get much better food just a few blocks away on...

Cross posting from Yelp because it was that bad:

Served me rancid chu-toro, I vomitted. Fish was easily a week old. They shouldn't be in business and are padding their reviews.

I'm not from the Bay Area however if you're ever in San Diego I recommend sushi Ota. It's a decent place, and would never serve rotting fish to a customer.

How did I know it was a week old? Overpowering fishy taste, in no way reminiscent of the actual flavor of tuna. Color was off for chu-toro. Fishy smell, again not reminiscent of tuna.

To the restaurant: shame on you, you shouldn't be in business. There is no excuse to serve...

What a wonderful new addition to the Richmond District! We stopped in because we saw the grand opening sign and are always excited for new food spots in the neighborhood. The food was incredible! Very good quality fish, extremely well prepared karaage, Katsu and skewers and we loved their Beef Sukiyaki which was the first time either of us had tried the dish. The mochi dessert at the end was truly a perfect send off. Cute, cozy interior. Very attentive staff and a nice design overall, we will definitely be back for more! We were so happy we gave it a shot and I hope to see this become a neighborhood staple!

Nice dark interior with plenty of seating. Nice semi private room in the front for a larger group. Friendly and fast service. Bento boxes were a good portion except the salmon teriyaki but was expected. The wasabi was freshly grated. I liked their daily specials. We got the amberjack sashimi that was fresh and well plated. Thought the Kama was only okay. Housemade curry was good and a great portion.
