I used to go here often. Really liked the Joey Ramone veggie meatball sandwich as a concept. However, I got frustrated because requests to modify the sandwich are nearly entirely ignored, and because the meatballs are sometimes coldish in the center, which is off-putting. I don’t really care about that, though… it’s the bizarre inaction to my requests for pretty simple modification.
Regarding the modification requests, it may sound silly, but I really do like onions. I asked on 6 separate occasions to have onions on this sandwich, and each time there are maybe 4 thin slices of them on the sandwich. So I tried asking for extra starting the second time—no change. I tried asking for extra and then emphasizing it, saying “really, quite a lot of onions please.” And the number provided is always so few that the people I go with laugh at the sandwich after hearing my order and seeing the results. It feels like the onions are thin-sliced with a cheese grater and then added with a tweezer, one by one, counting them out on the other hand.
By the end, I tried nearly begging, emphasizing how much I love onions. How I really REALLY wanted extra onions. How much I love onions, please, put “way more onions on it than you think is normal or usual or good.”
I got one extra thin strand, maybe?
What is crazy is that this is the same at both locations. I’ve tried asking for extra sauce but gave up after the second time when I noticed the request wasn’t even written down.
I don’t know if there’s a policy of being stingy with toppings, or a communication issue between the sales terminal and the staff prepping the sandwiches, but I’ve never had an issue like this anywhere. It’s so frustrating because I really want to like this sandwich—why else would I have tried 6 times??
If this sandwich shop would just give me onions and sauce I’d continue going to it weekly and indefinitely, but this kafkaesque situation must come to an end. For...
Read moreWent to san fran for the day and called ahead to make sure they were open since the sandwiches looked good online. A girl answered the phone "hello" like a personal phone I said is this bite me sandwiches. She said yes. Ok wanted to confirm you guys were open since it's a holiday. She said yeah we are. Ok all good we get there and my husband and I both order a number 18 on dutch crunch. The older lady asked if we would like a drink and I turned around to ask him and he said yes so I turned to her and said sure. She rings us up and I go to sit down with my daughter and husband. I turned to ask if we just pick a drink out since it was a big Pepsi fridge. She said oh you didnt ask for a drink. After my husband and I just told her sure we would like one. I told her ok Nevermind. It's not a big deal . So our sandwiches are ready and they were very disappointing. They were really thin on the meat. I had several bites that were just bread and lettuce. The bread was great. As we started eating within 5 min the same older lady who rang us up came and sat at the table next to us to talk on the phone. We were the ONLY people in the whole place and she chose to sat directly next to us. She said we can go get a soda and its on her. i told her it's no biggie dont worry about it. she replies ok just get a drink it's on me. Ok then I got up and grabbed a Sprite. In the middle of her phone conversation she turns and randomly asks us how old our daughter was. I said um she's 2. She replies."Oh same age as my grandson" and proceeds to talk to whomever she was on the phone with. We felt really uncomfortable from the beginning with the soda to her sitting directly next to us. We ate quickly and left, it was not a good experience and just seemed kind of odd how the experience played out. Unfortunately would not...
Read moreI know this is a highly rated sandwich shop but I’ve given this place multiple chances throughout the last year, and every single one of them, my sandwich has not come out right. I’ve asked questions on how the sandwich is regularly made, I’ve tried telling them specifically what I’m looking for and it comes out wrong, I’ve brought my sandwiches back up to the counter and kindly asked them to fix it and have been met with eye rolls and sighs, I’m really not a difficult customer and even though I’ve not been taken care of appropriately, I’ve never been rude or disrespectful. Last time I was there I watched the miscommunication happen between the cashier (who was on the phone while also taking my order) and the actual people making my sandwich. I heard them making the sandwich say, “as is” saying to make it regularly when I specifically asked for changes to the sandwich. It is beyond frustrating and I’ll probably never come back to this shop again. Too many failed attempts and I also tip EVERY TIME I order here and to be met with rudeness when I just want the sandwich I paid for to be done correctly is quite...
