Black Sugar - Boba Bar — Restaurant in San Francisco

Very close to Union Square. Very small spot indoors so it's mainly an order and go boba spot.

I wanted a drink with boba already included so I ordered the black sugar latte ($5.95 before tax). The drink comes cold and I picked less ice, medium sweet, and in a paper cup (they offer this as the sustainable option). The straw is also compostable commercially so yay! My drink was sweeter than I anticipated, given I ordered medium sweet (which is the less sweet option), but still delicious.

There's minimal interaction with the employees. You order at the self serve kiosk (unless you want to pay in cash. I didn't see a discount mentioned for paying cash) and then they bring out the drinks and call out the name of the order. Also didn't realize that SF has a healthy mandate of 6%, which looks to be separate than the SF city employer mandate of 5%, so my order was applicable for the 6% mandate, but not...

I rarely post reviews on Google Maps, but I feel like I need to for this place. I’ve been coming here regularly for my boba fix since it opened and let me tell you this place has only gotten better. Benny the owner never forgets a regular’s face and personally works behind the counter and in the kitchen. He cares so much about the quality it’s insane and is very receptive to feedback. Don’t like your drink? They’ll make you a new one immediately. Curious about the boba business? Benny is an open book.

I usually get the black sugar milk or the black sesame milk and I’ve been so spoiled by the taste here I won’t go anywhere else for it. Recently they’ve also added the previously seasonal strawberry drink to their regular menu so I’ve been getting that as well. Honestly, this is my favorite boba shop in San Francisco. It's been my go-to this whole summer! It's a really cute and small shop. Just a short table with a few seats. It's definitely a "grab-and-go" place. The lines can get pretty long but I've never waited over 10 minutes. I am obsessed with the Black Sugar Fresh Milk. It has no tea or caffeine in it! Personally, I really like milk-y drinks so this was perfect for me. You can't adjust the sweetness or have the option of taking out the boba. This was kind of tricky for me but the drink is still worth it. If I'm not feeling boba, I love the Jasmine Milk Tea with herbal jelly! Overall, the tea flavors here are really good and the boba is super tasty! I definitely recommend trying this place just to try out the quality and taste...
