**San Francisco One-Day Trip** Limited characters, straight to the point [wink] **Jet Lag:** I adjusted my schedule by staying up for a day and a half before the flight, so I could sleep on the plane. But I didn't really sleep much, so this method varies by person. I think it's more about booking the right flight. Best to arrive in the afternoon or evening in the US, grab a meal, and then sleep. Although I woke up at 4 AM, I still felt quite energetic. **Eats:** - **The Halal Guys:** Staying at Hilton, it's right across the street. I chatted with the queueing foreigners and found out it's a popular NYC eatery, the first branch in SF. Looks like Indian food but is actually from Arabia. It was pretty good. Searched on Dazhongdianping (Chinese Yelp) but couldn't find it, so if you want to try, just search for Hilton Union Square on the map. - **Pinsrest Dinner 1969:** An old restaurant founded in 1969. The taste is average; you might find it not as good as a similar Western restaurant back home costing RMB 150 per person. **Play:** - **Lombard Street (Nine Curves Flower Street):** We walked 2.5 km from the hotel. Initially thought it was just over 2 km, but LA is full of steep slopes! Still, walking was good [crying with laughter]. The view was nice, especially taking photos from the bottom looking up. - **Fisherman's Wharf:** Very commercialized, with snack streets, shops, street performances, and sea lions. Just stroll around [crying with laughter]. - **Golden Gate Bridge:** Took a cab to a dedicated open plaza. Don't rush to take photos; walk down for better spots and you can even walk on the bridge. At the one-third point, you can see a panoramic view of SF. Hard to get a cab nearby, only bus 28 goes directly to the city center. **Stay:** I stayed at Hilton Union Square. Recommended because everything—eating, shopping—is nearby. Plus, there's a bar on the 46th floor with a panoramic view of SF. **Shopping:** - **LV:** Found a limited edition box bag for about RMB 40,000. Checked and found it was RMB 33,000 in Europe, a difference of RMB 7,000. Not recommended to buy in the US. - **Fresh:** Prices were similar to what I saw on Xiaohongshu (Red) for other regions. Seems like local brands aren't much cheaper. **Local Tips:** 1. We gave some coins to a homeless person on the street. A foreigner said not to give them money as they might use it for drugs. Makes sense. 2. Adult bus fare is $2.75.

Looking to satisfy my late-night craving, I found myself debating between heading Downtown for some takeout or rummaging through my stocked fridge. Ultimately, I opted for the latter and made my way home via the Mission. Parking was a breeze at this hour, but be warned that double parking is a big no-no in the area as the police are vigilant and will ticket you. The line at the restaurant was short, and I was promptly attended to. Having perused some reviews beforehand, I settled on the Regular Beef Plate. As they're usually swamped during weekends, everything on the plate was fresh. It comprised delicately seasoned rice, crisp lettuce, succulent tomato, a generous helping of tender beef, as well as onions, olives, pita, and a delectable Barbecue Sauce that made the dish for me. It was a satisfying and flavorful meal that didn't feel too heavy or greasy, thanks to the addition of vegetables. I'll definitely be back for more. A word of advice for those considering delivery - I've noticed many complaints in that regard, so if possible, make the trip to the store to ensure you get the plate you truly desire.

It’s located in front of Hilton on o’farrel street, must choose the type of the meal, platter or sandwich, then choose the toping like beef, chicken etc, or you can have mix toping. Taste is good, this highly recommended halal food in SF

I have very fond memories of halal food, especially from the east coast.

Visiting New York is one of my favorite things to do and on one trip in particular, my cousin introduced me to The Halal Guys and a few other vendors that specialize in Halal...and I can admit that they are all amazing.

During lunch when I decided to snooze off and my colleague went to grab a bit, I was pleasantly surprised when she came back with Halal Guys. The aroma filled the office and made me hungry. I was then reminded that the franchise did move over to the west coast years ago.

A quick yelp search and I found that the place was only a few blocks away. I strategically planned my next week around grabbing lunch at The Halal Guys.

That day I could not decide between a bowl or a sandwich nor could I decide between a combination of beef and chicken or just chicken. I said carpe diem and decided when I arrive I'll know what to do.

I ended up getting a chicken sandwich and yes, I was a happy camper. Added it with a little spice of course. Surprisingly I didn't feel the heat until I got to the end of my sandwich in which I finally decided to take a sip of water. There was a ton of chicken and lettuce and tomatoes. Sauce was just right. I did wonder if the pita could be doubled, but that bread held everything together.

I cannot stress enough how great the team is here and how excellent the customer service is. Even when they are super busy, the team is always helping and...

A few issues that made this less than charming.

Food: -Food was Ok; a lot more expensive and a lot less generous on meat than the east coast. The plate is still a lot of food, but light on meat. Why go to HG if you don’t get a small mound of meat? -Something about the flavors and freshness seemed muted. The best halal guys have freshly roasted meaty goodness; maybe they can’t achieve that level of hot freshness without more turnover/throughput? -I felt a bit nickel and dimed. Each falafel priced out at over a buck each, and they charge extra for olives or peppers. Even subway gives you those for free! On the upside, we paid for olives and we got a generous amount.

Service: -Maybe it was the Friday evening shift wearing on the staff? One guy was trying really hard to be positive and get our order made; everyone else looked a bit tired and didn’t seem to put a lot of attention on our plate. The atmosphere just didn’t feel great.

I would definitely give it another shot; food was close to good but didn’t hit the spot this time. I love halal guys in New York and this really felt like a let down. I would give it a 2 star in comparison, but running a restaurant during covid in this part of town looks tough and I might have come at a weird...
