So this was our first time in San Francisco. Boudin Is world famous for their delicious bread and soup. It was kind of difficult to figure out which Boudin to go to. There are lots of locations. We went to the biggest one on the Wharf. Ii’s in a great location. We ate upstairs because we wanted more of a fine dining experience. The Server we had was being trained and shadowed by a more experienced server. The ladies both had strong accents. My guess Is that Spanish is their first language. Anyway, this made communication a little difficult. It ended up being a problem later in my experience. They brought some bread to the table. There were six of us and she brought out one little basket that didn’t even contain enough bread for each person. I asked for another basket, she made a negative face but brought another one and sat it on the table. Anyway, the food was really good. I had the fish and chips. I loved the red snapper. The only disappointment were the french fries. They were overdone, on the cold side, but the star was really the coleslaw and delicious fish. My daughter devoured her pasta shrimp dish. She could not stop raving about it. My husband got the crab soup which he said was yummy . We also wanted to try the famous Clam chowder. We changed our order midorder as we were talking to the servers. We made it clear though that we did not want to put the soup in a bread bowl and that we would like it separately served. My youngest wanted a bowl of soup rather than a cup so my eldest daughter, and I decided that we would eat her kid’s portion and give the bowl to the child since she absolutely loves clam chowder and we already were ordering entrées and just wanted to taste the soup. We assumed that there would be two breadbowls since we ordered two soups, but that later became a misunderstanding when I asked what happened to the other bread bowl. The server, then decided to argue with me and give me the bill and explained that if I wanted another breadbowl, I would have to pay. I told her I thought it came with the soup and she said that it was going to cost more because I didn’t order correctly. She became combative in a way that was almost embarrassing. Also her coworker/trainer was standing there and they were trying to defend her position. It really wasn’t needful for her to chime in. All that did was make the situation even more uncomfortable. Literally everyone at the table understood what I ordered so they thought it was odd that two servers were raising their voice and arguing with me about a miscommunication on their side. There was even an implication that I was being cheap or something because I didn’t wanna pay more. If I wanted to be cheap, I wouldn’t be in that restaurant because it’s not a cheap restaurant. I told her I was not going to argue with her and I wanted to move on. Remember I’m on my vacation and I’m looking for a really nice rememberable experience. Quite frankly, no one was in the mood to eat anymore sourdough bread. I would have to take it back to my Airbnb anyway, so I let the whole thing go and started to pay my bill. I’m not really looking to speak to a manager when I’m on my vacation. We just wanted to spend time as a family and talk a little before we left . After ten minutes or so one of the servers came back with more bread as a gesture. I guess that was her way of saying she apologized? My niece lives in Spain and perhaps she should have translated or something for us when we originally ordered . Maybe there wouldn’t have been this misunderstanding. Anyway, overall we had a great time looking at the water and eating yummy food. I would venture to say that my experience with the server is not typical, I will definitely be...
Read moreIf you're visiting San Francisco, a trip to Boudin Bakery is an absolute must! This bakery has been a San Francisco institution for over 150 years, and it's easy to see why. From the moment you walk in, you'll be greeted with the warm, comforting aroma of freshly baked bread, and the sight of the bakers hard at work creating their famous sourdough loaves.
The history of this place is truly fascinating. Boudin Bakery has been in business since 1849, and they're credited with creating the original San Francisco sourdough bread. It's amazing to think that the recipe and techniques used by the bakers today are the same ones that have been passed down through generations.
Of course, the real star of the show here is the bread. The sourdough is tangy, chewy, and perfectly crusty, with a texture that's unlike any other bread I've tried. But don't just stop at the bread - Boudin Bakery also serves up some delicious sandwiches and pastries that are definitely worth trying. I particularly enjoyed the clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl - it's the perfect comfort food on a chilly San Francisco day.
The atmosphere of the bakery is great too - it's a bustling, lively place that's always packed with locals and tourists alike. You can even watch the bakers at work through the large windows that overlook the kitchen.
