Castro Village Wine Co — Restaurant in San Francisco

I love this little wine shop. The staff are wonderfully nice and so helpful at picking out bottles in any price range. The location on 19th & Castro (next door to Spike's) is great, just enough off the beaten path to feel quaint, but easy to walk to. The shop is gorgeous and you would expect all of the wines to start at a high price point, but in fact they have several bottles in the $20 range. Many of the wines will be new to you, as the owners are always seeking out lesser known labels and often securing exclusive shipments. Little known tip: they offer tastings at the back of the store. Great local wine shop specializing in California wines (plus a small selection of Champagne and liquor). A good cross-section of wineries are represented from all of California's growing regions. And in the addition to the the usual California-grown grape varieties (chardonnay, cab, pinot, etc.) the shop carries a few options for lesser grown varieties like melon blanc.
