We went here for breakfast. A few of the food items were ok, but some were terrible, and the service was very unimpressive. One of us ordered a mocha, and it took them 20 minutes to come back and tell her the machine was broken. Another two people ordered coffee, and neither could drink the coffee as it was so bitter. One person asked for a fresh cup, thinking we might have just gotten the last of the pot, but the new cup was as bad as the first. I ordered sunny-side up eggs, and had to send them back twice, since the white was still liquid. I know right around the yolk is sometimes a bit soft, but these were definitely too raw (the first egg I could almost see all the way through). I gave up after two tries and changed my order to over-easy, and they were still a bit under cooked. After I sent back the second pair, one of the waiters came up and implied I didn't know what I wanted ("so, you wanted over-medium, not sunny side up"). They could not seem to keep any of our orders straight and the food all took a long time to come out, even though they weren't that busy. When they gave us our bill, they had left the mocha on, and we had to tell the cashier we hadn't gotten it. Overall, impressive service and some...

Cute little place in downtown area. Weird experience overall though. First, there was a light garbage smell coming from the back room, not a great start. But we chalked that up to the place being so damn old. The atmosphere fortunately had a very cool vibe with great 1940-50s music playing.

The food was pretty good. Loved the fries, but I always like the thin cuts without any coating on em. Had an excellent greasy spoon mushroom Swiss burger -- which is my default diner litmus test. The waiter was attentive and very nice. Overall I was very happy with the food and experience.

That is, until some weird hotel person  yelled at the chefs to help with someone's bags for the attached hotel next door. She was super unprofessional and kinda mean. It was so bad that I almost got to to defend the poor wait staff. Instead we minded our business, left a heavy tip for the poor guy, and split...

With all that said, if you're interested in a decent old school greasy spoon diner vibe in the middle of Union Square, it's worth checking out. I would just set the expectations a little low due to whatever that hotel mess is going...

I went to this place with a high hopes. It looked good and close to where we were staying for our Thanksgiving trip in San Francisco. After my girlfriend and I finished our meal.... we noticed a mouse running out of the kitchen. We immediately picked up and left. As we were leaving I told the cashier what I saw it and she didn't even flinch when I said it. Oh it gets better....

We went back later that night to take a picture to make sure we were at the right place and get contact info, but luckily we ran into an employee. He was treating the situation light-hearted and not very helpful. He even ask if we paid for the food " you didn't pay for food did ya?" Like it was a joke. He also made excuses about having mice in the city and it being a problem. How you manage your facilities is not the costumer's problem, ever. So folks if you care about your food being in a CLEAN, SANITIZED environment. I DO NOT, REPEAT, DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. AVOID...

We were supposed to go to ANOTHER place for breakfast, but with queue out the door and feeling the hangryness building up we decided to go to the closest possible place. I have to say; I’m so happy it was DAVID’S! This is an old style diner, and here you’ll find one of the last round counters in the West! As amazing that is in itself it does not match the staff! Such lovely ppl… wow… We came into talk and they told us about some of the history to this place. It opened in 1952 and the owner was a Holocaust survivor. The neon sign you can see inside, the menu with the wooden letters up on the wall is all original from the opening. So, the food. Yes, it was great. The hash brown could be a tad more on the crisp side and the coffee was a bit bitter, but the bagel, pancake and croissant was super good! The glasses could’ve been cleaner, so ask for a straw. Everything added up: I can really recommend this cozy, vintage diner!❤️

There are plenty of cookie cutter restaurants in any given city. There aren't enough great, old school delicatessens. Sitting at the giant bar that fills the whole place feels like a throwback to before I was even alive (might be an old soul occasionally, but I'm not actually THAT old). Vintage music plays in the background as you get served up hefty portions of classic dishes. There's a real sense of ambiance in a place like this, and while the food isn't incredible, it's also not trying to vie for a Michelin star. I had the bagel breakfast sandwich with more eggs and bacon that could even fit. Both were tasty but the bacon clearly came from a batch that had likely been mass cooked some time ago. The bagel was great, and I would likely order this again, just expect better than average diner/deli food and don't expect to be blown away.
