I canât help but use profanity when describing my one-night stay at the Hotel Adagio. Remembering the commercials that played for the Marriottâs Autograph Collection of Hotels, I was beyond disappointed when expectation met reality. First off, the temporary valet parking area was packed with empty, parked cars. When we came into the check-in lobby to find the valet attendant, he was no where to be found. Guest Services had to call a valet in to assist which took a few minutes of waiting. One positive was the courteous and responsive customer service we received, everyone I encountered was extremely kind and happy to help, so I was still optimistic about our stay at this point, seeing how nice (albeit empty) the lobby and bar area was on first impression. Then, it went downhill from there. I stayed in one of the low-end standard king rooms âwith a view,â the view was a very dirty (San Francisco) valet parking lot and an alley way, beyond that a limited view of the San Francisco skyline that included no landmarks, just a few hotels and businesses. The room was poorly attended by House Keeping... there was a clothes hanger on a light fixture and there was a Walgreens bag over the smoke detector which was hanging loosely by its wires. Also the refrigerator, which is the Casino-type of locking fridge with sensitivity panels for high-priced snacks, although empty, was the impossible to open. We left it alone for an hour and revisited, finally opening the fridge to find it was barely cold, maybe a degree or 2 below room-temperature. We called Guest Services to notify them of the smoke detector, the fridge, and to ask about an ice dispenser, we were told that weâd have to come to the lobby to get an ice bucket. When I arrived back at the lobby, I realized the hotel bar was closed... at 11 on a Saturday night (letâs chalk that up to San Franciscoâs strict COVID-19 restrictions though.) A few more things I observed throughout the night: there is a loud buzzing sound coming from outside the room I found impossible to ignore throughout the night, closing windows and shades did not help. The TV guide was non-functional and many channels didnât work anyway. The shower water pressure was extremely high and the flow was extremely low resulting in a sort of painful hydraulic needle effect. A towel rack literally just fell off the side of the bathroom counter when I grabbed a towel from it.
Iâd give this place half a star if I could. Save your money and stay at a chain-hotel for a better price...

IâM SO SORRY I DIDNâT CATCH YOUR NAME! YOU WERE SOOO FRIENDLY AND HAD REALLY GOOD TASTE IN FOOD! SHE WAS SOOOO GENUINELY CARING! THE YOUNG WOMAN WAITRESS AT ELLIOTTâS ON MARCH 16th (sorry IDK your name but she wears glasses), SHE WAS SUPER NICE TO ME JUST A SWEET SPIRIT! I stayed at Hotel Adagio for the second time Today! I also stayed here back in December 2023. It was a beautiful hotel with all the Christmas decorations and holiday cheer. There were no homeless people to step over as I had read about in other reviews. To be fair, in Dec 2023 the city had just rid the streets of all the homeless secondary to the state of arrival of the Chinese president. This second time, around 3 months later, there STILL were no homeless people in site (may The Lord Bless them and keep them safe). I felt completely safe walking around outside to get in Lyfts or find the valet. (Single female here).
This was a staycation for me, however, when I am out of town I like resorts or hotels that have a luxurious feel, or close to that anyway. This Hotel, while it isnât a resort, is more than sufficient. They keep the inside looking well kept and clean. It doesnât feel like, letâs say, youâre staying at a âResidence Innâ (NO SHADE TO RESIDENCE IN, THEREâs a time for that type of hotel). I needed a break from kids, and to relax. I also booked a massage at Burke Williams which is only 5 mins away via Lyft. If you need R&R, I highly recommend this hotel and that spa!
Thank you again Hotel Adagio, I canât wait to visit you all again! May The Lord Jesus bless you all abundantly for your...
Read moreI booked a larger guest room with 1 king bed and a sofa bed, but it didnât feel larger at all. The room was tightly packed with hardly any space to move around.
There was no fridge, just a minibar with items to purchase. I donât understand why they keep that space occupied when it could be used for something more useful. The TV was small, there was no swimming pool, and the gym was tiny. Overall, it didnât feel like a 4-star hotel in any way.
The area right outside felt quite unsafe, though we still walked to Union Square, which was about a 7-10 minute walk.
The $30 destination fee felt unnecessary, especially since I was there for just one night. The $15 credit for the restaurant or bar is just a way to make you spend more; I would rather choose from the many other options nearby.
On the positive side, the front desk staff were amazing. I forgot the name of the front office staff starts with asâŚwho checked us in, but she was so helpful from check-in to check-out and made us feel welcomed. When I mentioned that I hadnât used the $30 destination fee credit, she even checked with her supervisor to see if they could refund it, but he said it had to be paid whether we used it or not đ¤Ł. Still, I appreciated her effort.
Staff gets an A+ from me. They were quick to assist â someone came to our room within a minute when I couldnât make a call and even helped reheat food.
But the room itself was disappointing. The windows looked almost damaged, and the room didnât look like the photos online. For the âlarger guest room king with sofa bed,â the pictures showed big windows and space, but what we got was small windows on one side and a cramped layout.
The location isnât bad, but this experience makes me wonder how this hotel qualifies as a 4-star compared to other Marriott brands like Residence Inn, Element, or Aloft, which have left me with a far...
