**A Remarkable Stay at Hotel Adagio** Hotel Adagio in San Francisco delivers an outstanding hospitality experience, making it a true gem in the heart of the city. From the moment you arrive, the service is unparalleled—simply the best in many years. The hotel's prime location allows easy access to the best of San Francisco, whether you're exploring iconic landmarks or enjoying the vibrant local scene. Upon entering, the lobby impresses with its stylish furnishings, creating a welcoming space perfect for both relaxation and productivity. One of the standout features is Mortimer, the chic bar nestled inside the hotel. Whether you're indulging in expertly crafted cocktails or savoring delicious cuisine, the quality here is top-tier. The accommodations exceed expectations, with king-size rooms that are spacious and impeccably appointed, ensuring ultimate comfort. The bathroom, complete with a fantastic shower, adds an extra touch of luxury. Thoughtful amenities such as complimentary bottles of water and champagne enhance the stay, reinforcing the hotel’s commitment to exceptional service and guest satisfaction. Hotel Adagio has mastered the art of hospitality, offering an experience that is refined, comfortable, and truly memorable. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a flawless stay in San Francisco.

Hotel Adagio – Excellent Service, Annoying “Refreshment Center” Located in the Union Square area—once an elegant part of San Francisco and now showing signs of grit—the hotel stands out for its exceptional service. Whether it’s the receptionists, maintenance staff, or housekeepers, employees consistently go above and beyond, making guests feel welcome and cared for. The rooms are large, well-appointed, and comfortable, with just one notable annoyance: instead of providing a refrigerator, each room contains a large vending unit stocked with snacks and drinks at the typical overpriced hotel rates. This is presumptively called a “refreshment center.” In practice, it means that some of the expensive square footage of a room—costing us around $400 per night—is occupied by a profit-generating vending machine, depriving guests of a functional refrigerator for their own use. While the service and room quality deserve praise, the “refreshment center” feels intrusive and commercially motivated, reducing convenience for guests. As ordinary consumers, we are not paid or compensated in any way for this review. Our feedback is aimed at improving the guest experience in a property with otherwise outstanding hospitality.

I can’t help but use profanity when describing my one-night stay at the Hotel Adagio. Remembering the commercials that played for the Marriott’s Autograph Collection of Hotels, I was beyond disappointed when expectation met reality. First off, the temporary valet parking area was packed with empty, parked cars. When we came into the check-in lobby to find the valet attendant, he was no where to be found. Guest Services had to call a valet in to assist which took a few minutes of waiting. One positive was the courteous and responsive customer service we received, everyone I encountered was extremely kind and happy to help, so I was still optimistic about our stay at this point, seeing how nice (albeit empty) the lobby and bar area was on first impression. Then, it went downhill from there. I stayed in one of the low-end standard king rooms “with a view,” the view was a very dirty (San Francisco) valet parking lot and an alley way, beyond that a limited view of the San Francisco skyline that included no landmarks, just a few hotels and businesses. The room was poorly attended by House Keeping... there was a clothes hanger on a light fixture and there was a Walgreens bag over the smoke detector which was hanging loosely by its wires. Also the refrigerator, which is the Casino-type of locking fridge with sensitivity panels for high-priced snacks, although empty, was the impossible to open. We left it alone for an hour and revisited, finally opening the fridge to find it was barely cold, maybe a degree or 2 below room-temperature. We called Guest Services to notify them of the smoke detector, the fridge, and to ask about an ice dispenser, we were told that we’d have to come to the lobby to get an ice bucket. When I arrived back at the lobby, I realized the hotel bar was closed... at 11 on a Saturday night (let’s chalk that up to San Francisco’s strict COVID-19 restrictions though.) A few more things I observed throughout the night: there is a loud buzzing sound coming from outside the room I found impossible to ignore throughout the night, closing windows and shades did not help. The TV guide was non-functional and many channels didn’t work anyway. The shower water pressure was extremely high and the flow was extremely low resulting in a sort of painful hydraulic needle effect. A towel rack literally just fell off the side of the bathroom counter when I grabbed a towel from it.

I’d give this place half a star if I could. Save your money and stay at a chain-hotel for a better price...

SPECIAL SHOUTOUT TO TUAN THE BELLMAN, AND ALL THREE MEN (AND A WOMAN) AT THE FRONT DESK! THEY ALL DID THEIR BEST TO MAKE SURE I WAS HAPPY AND ACCOMMODATED! YOU CAN TELL TUAN AND THE VALET (I believe from El Salvador), ON THE NIGHT SHIFT OF MARCH 15th, TRULY LOVE TO SERVE FROM THEIR HEARTS! And the WOMAN TENDING THE BAR FROM POLAND!!!! I’M SO SORRY I DIDN’T CATCH YOUR NAME! YOU WERE SOOO FRIENDLY AND HAD REALLY GOOD TASTE IN FOOD! SHE WAS SOOOO GENUINELY CARING! THE YOUNG WOMAN WAITRESS AT ELLIOTT’S ON MARCH 16th (sorry IDK your name but she wears glasses), SHE WAS SUPER NICE TO ME JUST A SWEET SPIRIT! I HAVE TO SAY EVERYONE WAS EXCEPTIONALLY NICE AND HAD GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE, AND I KNOW GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE. THIS HOTEL ALSO RECOGNIZES AND ACKNOWLEDGES YOUR MARRIOTT REWARDS STATUS, AND THEY HAVE SUPER GOOD PERKS LIKE CREDITS FOR BREAKFAST OR MARRIOTT POINTS JUST TO SAY ‘WELCOME’ & ‘THANK YOU’! (Cookies and champagne 👀). The staff never treated me poorly or looked down on me…🥲 I’m so grateful and would recommend this Hotel to anyone visiting SF. 💯!

I stayed at Hotel Adagio for the second time Today! I also stayed here back in December 2023. It was a beautiful hotel with all the Christmas decorations and holiday cheer. There were no homeless people to step over as I had read about in other reviews. To be fair, in Dec 2023 the city had just rid the streets of all the homeless secondary to the state of arrival of the Chinese president. This second time, around 3 months later, there STILL were no homeless people in site (may The Lord Bless them and keep them safe). I felt completely safe walking around outside to get in Lyfts or find the valet. (Single female here).

This was a staycation for me, however, when I am out of town I like resorts or hotels that have a luxurious feel, or close to that anyway. This Hotel, while it isn’t a resort, is more than sufficient. They keep the inside looking well kept and clean. It doesn’t feel like, let’s say, you’re staying at a “Residence Inn” (NO SHADE TO RESIDENCE IN, THERE’s a time for that type of hotel). I needed a break from kids, and to relax. I also booked a massage at Burke Williams which is only 5 mins away via Lyft. If you need R&R, I highly recommend this hotel and that spa!

Thank you again Hotel Adagio, I can’t wait to visit you all again! May The Lord Jesus bless you all abundantly for your...

I booked a larger guest room with 1 king bed and a sofa bed, but it didn’t feel larger at all. The room was tightly packed with hardly any space to move around.

There was no fridge, just a minibar with items to purchase. I don’t understand why they keep that space occupied when it could be used for something more useful. The TV was small, there was no swimming pool, and the gym was tiny. Overall, it didn’t feel like a 4-star hotel in any way.

The area right outside felt quite unsafe, though we still walked to Union Square, which was about a 7-10 minute walk.

The $30 destination fee felt unnecessary, especially since I was there for just one night. The $15 credit for the restaurant or bar is just a way to make you spend more; I would rather choose from the many other options nearby.

On the positive side, the front desk staff were amazing. I forgot the name of the front office staff starts with as…who checked us in, but she was so helpful from check-in to check-out and made us feel welcomed. When I mentioned that I hadn’t used the $30 destination fee credit, she even checked with her supervisor to see if they could refund it, but he said it had to be paid whether we used it or not 🤣. Still, I appreciated her effort.

Staff gets an A+ from me. They were quick to assist – someone came to our room within a minute when I couldn’t make a call and even helped reheat food.

But the room itself was disappointing. The windows looked almost damaged, and the room didn’t look like the photos online. For the “larger guest room king with sofa bed,” the pictures showed big windows and space, but what we got was small windows on one side and a cramped layout.

The location isn’t bad, but this experience makes me wonder how this hotel qualifies as a 4-star compared to other Marriott brands like Residence Inn, Element, or Aloft, which have left me with a far...
