Redwood Room — Restaurant in San Francisco

The renovations at the Clift Hotel are hideous. It's a boring beige lobby with nothing worth remembering. It looks like every other motel. I wonder what the thought process was "Let's take the previous decor, design, full of rich deep tones and put alot of thought and effort into making it as non descript and boring as possible". The hotel is in the heart of downtown San Francisco. This new decor looks inspired by some 1980's, subtle hint of Southwestern, tacky flavor. It's reminiscent of a fastfood chain. There's nothing that ties it to San Francisco and the rich and unique blend it's known for. I've been going to this place for over 25 years. CDFs include art deco decor, original chandeliers and sconces, the tall (still amazingly unpainted) inlay redwood paneling, high ceilings, paneled columns. The high quality replica art by Klimt could use an interpretive panel but we all have smart phones. Mirror-glass bar and swanky furniture is differentiated and somewhat kinda-compatible. DJ and associated playlist technically does not meet the SIS but is removable in the future, thereby the music — while loud and emo — is consistent with standard 10. This bar was lovely. The elegant entrance, leading to a high-ceilinged space accented with stunning Klimt-inspired artwork, immediately captivated me. The drinks were excellent, and the burgers and truffle fries were absolutely delicious.

While the service wasn’t the best—requiring effort to get the staff’s attention when needed—they were attentive and helpful once they noticed us. They could intentionally look around for customers' needs instead of chatting with each other. Additionally, the round tables we were seated at by the wall felt rather small for a group; larger tables would have been more comfortable.
