Place is a disaster all around every way you look. Bunch of angry & depressed locals here that are guaranteed to put sand in your gears. Bartenders don't seem to want to work, but you can't serve yourself so you're at their mercy. Irish girl that works nights is straight up rude and will make you wait for your drink while she chats with her friends. Her wet, highly visible open cold sores are a turnoff as well as a public health hazard for someone serving.
Elvis, the owner, lets the regulars and other patrons considered "family" get away with behavior that would normally ban them from any reputable bar. It doesn't seem like the owner wants to run a bar at all.
Clueless patrons sit right up next to the pool table and then get angry when they have to move so you can shoot a ball. Pool table is unlevel and the cuesticks are not maintained, hence the reason why it is free to play.
The more times you go here, the worse the staff treats you. Drink prices fluctuate between $7-$9 depending on which bartender was working.
There are much better places to go around here and spend your money. If this was the last bar on Valencia, I'd drink in the alley with the homeless addicts, that would be more fun and...
Read moreGreat family bar! As soon as you walk into the Dovre, you're not alone anymore. Good music is playing, the bartenders are friendly, and people treat you like you're a long-lost friend. Prices are fair, and everyone is respectful plus the pool table, jukebox, and pinball machines help spice up your time there. This is a dive bar, so be prepared to go back to that time in San Francisco history where simplicity and no-frills reigned. I love this place and Elvis (the owner) and his bartenders make sure you're taken care of. This bar is more than a place to have a drink, it's a place to be with friends and chill. Sometimes they even have DJ parties like for Halloween and they're rockin'. One year, I decided that hosting a New Year Eve's party are too much of a pain for me, so went to the Dovre, and Elvis, his girlfriend, friends, and family gave me the best NYE I could ask for. This bar has a long history and it feels good to support a family-run small business with caring...
Read moreWhat a great classic Irish bar. I love the vibe here and some of the patrons are truly characters. Great drink prices, really nice bartenders and a free pool table too! Try this place on a mellow Tuesday/Wednesday afternoon or hit it on a banging Friday/Saturday. If you want off the chain crazy try watching a Giants or Warriors game here. Good times.
Oh, and the Guinness is poured correct! Take your time, Guinness, you...
