La Taqueria in San Francisco is one of those places that feels like a cultural landmark as much as it is a restaurant. The vibe hits you as soon as you arrive — the line wraps around the building, people are buzzing with anticipation, and you can almost feel the history of this spot in the Mission District. Yes, the line is long, but don’t let that fool you. It moves quickly and efficiently, and honestly, it adds to the experience. You know when people are willing to wait, something special is happening inside.
I ordered the super carne asada burrito with sour cream and guacamole on the side. From the first bite, I understood exactly why this taqueria has earned Michelin recognition. The burrito was massive, but not just big for the sake of being big — it was flavorful, perfectly balanced, and grilled to perfection. The carne asada was juicy and seasoned beautifully, the tortilla had that golden touch from the grill, and every bite felt like it was crafted with care.
What I appreciated most was the simplicity of the menu. There aren’t a hundred different items competing for your attention. Instead, they focus on doing the classics exceptionally well. It’s that “less is more” philosophy, and it works.
Now, if I’m being real, the one area I’d love to see them step up is the salsa game. I’m a spice lover through and through, and while their salsa had flavor, the hottest option barely hit medium. I would’ve loved something with more heat, that knock-you-back spice that matches the boldness of everything else they serve.
This was also my first time dining at a Michelin restaurant in the U.S., and I couldn’t have asked for a better introduction. The staff was welcoming and attentive without being overbearing, and the prices were surprisingly reasonable considering the Michelin star status. For me, that balance — world-class food with down-to-earth pricing and energy — is what makes this place special.
If you’re visiting San Francisco or even if you’re local and haven’t made it here yet, do yourself a favor and go. La Taqueria is more than just food; it’s an experience, a piece of Bay Area food culture, and a reminder that excellence doesn’t have to be flashy. Sometimes it’s as simple as a burrito done right.

Read moreMy wife took us here for lunch. She found it through TikTok. We had to stand on a line for about 5 to 7 mins, some ppl waited way longer. We decided to dine in.
Food prices are the usual for burritos and tacos. We both ordered Super burritos with are about $9. I got beef and she got pork. That comes with sour cream, avocado, salsa and beans. We got hot sauce on the side. It was not really that hot to me, but my wife said it was hot if i let it soak in. We both got extra sour cream. We pieces large drinks which were $7 each. I got strawberry and she got mango. I got a Pacifico and she got a Modelo beer rich is about $6 or $7. Oh and we got chips, salsa and avocado which was $5. We shared it. It was enough to share.
We waited under 10 mins for our food. It came out hot. It was fully loaded and the meat was seasoned. We both enjoyed our food. However, my only complaint is that because it was the super one, I think it made it kinda soggy. So it was not as firm as I was used to of a burrito. My wife really dealt loved her's.
A couple beside us had burritos, but they looked crunchy. We looked it up and that was the Super Dorado. I shall get that next. Lol. Also, many ppl were getting the tacos. I will try that as well next.
My reccomendation if you decided to visit, go early so you can get a seat and not have to wait on a very long line or just take the food to go. Just know the line does move. Also, they take cash any card, they have different beers, sodas and homemade kinda drinks.
Ohhh.. there was a Mexican band (I don't remember the exact name of what those bands are called... my apologies) that came in and played a song and...
Read moreHonestly, I have to say this was a very underwhelming experience overall. The food itself? Absolutely five stars no question. The burrito I had was one of the best I’ve ever eaten in my life. So much flavor, perfectly made, and I loved that there was no rice just pure filling and taste. Truly incredible.
But the experience leading up to that was very disappointing. When we first got in line, they told us they were out of steak (which I understand since we got there about an hour and a half before closing). They said they still had carnitas, chicken, and chorizo. By the time we got to the counter, they were out of carnitas too, so I ordered two chicken items (a chicken burrito and a chicken quesadilla) plus one taco with chorizo. The lady confirmed my order and gave me a ticket.
Here’s the issue: we then had to wait almost an hour in line before finally getting our food. By the time it was our turn, we were among the last 10 people before closing, and then they suddenly told me they were out of chicken. After waiting that long, and after driving over an hour and a half just to come try this place, that was really frustrating. They offered to cancel the order, but by then I just ended up switching to chorizo, which was good, but not what I originally wanted.
So while the food itself is amazing no doubt worth five stars the overall experience was frustrating and left me disappointed. For that reason, I can only give three stars. I really hope I can come back and have a smoother, better experience next time, because the flavor is...
