Ordered a divisadero burger without lettuce and tomato and with grilled onions and a waffle for my partner because they werent there to order yet and I knew it was a busy restaurant so felt bad taking up a 4 top table in a diner with limited table space to begin with. The waitress seemed unhappy with the order although it was lunch and I had ordered the most expensive burger on the menu. I also didnt realize it didnt come with fries so added them as well. We did get our food fast but the quality was definitely sub par to be polite. Maybe more like double bogey to be honest. Burger came super dry out of a stack of frozen burgers at costco if I were to guess, either there or maybe Sam's club. 1 slice of cheese on a double cheeseburger, (a crime committed only by the hamburglar himself) and only either bad mayonnaise or miracle whip (I'm unsure if there is much of a difference between the two) which should be listed on the menu. I also requested grilled onions but after getting them they were removed immediately after a flashback of my grandpa's classic liver and onions. The taste was of a frozen burnt and bagged burger that was left open too long, mixed with a generic Kraft single, and wrapped in a bleached, balloon bread shaped like a bun. The waffle looked ok but quickly lost its intrigue after the realization came upon delivery of the burglar, I'm sorry burger came and expo informed us they had no fruit available. I am against 1 star ratings unless they come with a sickness or PTSD causing issues. So 2 stars due to they were open and not insect infested as far as I could determine. The bill came after waiting a few and putting a 20 dollar bill on the table. The bill came to 19.95 when arrived and a comment in a sarcastic tone came with it asking if we would like change. After having years of serving experience I do not ever tip less due to taste or food quality and had to break a 5 as well to give the horrendous 15 percent 3 dollar tip which for me is usually reserved for service I dont feel was good or most takeout if someone doesnt do an above average job of having prepared. . The elder of the 2 waitresses I had seen seemed to be happy with it and my partner and I were happy to be out of there and to our vehicle where I am writing this review. I'm still upset I passed on an El Farolito breakfast burrito but back to...
Read moreA little place that always seems to have a long line. I thought after a few months of passing this place everyday that it was worth a try.
I had a very odd experience at Eddie's Cafe. I dined alone, but was seated at one of their larger tables (could accommodate 5), after about 5 minutes. I was asked to move to the counter. Not a big deal, happy to move for a larger party.
Before moving I had ordered an omelette w/ cheese. I'll add that I assume omlettes include cheese, so it seemed odd to me that this was an add-on (and it's not stated as such in the menu). My food went to the wrong table, so I had to endure the waiter walking around for 3 minutes with my food trying to figure out where I went.
Despite ordering cheese, my omlette came without. The staff was apologetic (after concluding that the egg whites weren't cheese), and told me they'd take the cheese off the bill (which at this point it still hadn't been exposed to me that cheese is an extra charge on an omelette). Without cheese, the omlette was terribly dry, and painfully unseasoned. Many breakfast spots serve food that you feel you could make yourself, but this meal, more than any other breakfast I've had in the city, felt like something I could've made at home with ingredients from my corner convenience store. The hashbrowns were also overdone for my taste.
The one nice piece of breakfast was the biscuits (which you can get as an alternative to toast) was soft and buttery, but was painfully cold and could've used some additional time in the oven to get some more color.
After eating my sub-par/incorrectly served meal, I had to have a conversation with the waitress about what was included with an omelette vs. the price of the meal which was rather confusing at the time due to the lack of labeling in the menu. It took quite some time to engage with a waiter, as the place is fairly understaffed and has an oddly inefficient separation of duties in their staff. The place is also cash-only, which can be inconvenient (they do have an ATM that charges a moderate fee).
Overall, I won't be back. If you want an experience like Eddie's Cafe I'd advise you to make breakfast at home. If you want a more decadent/complex breakfast I'd recommend the Grind, Brenda's, or Squat and Gobble, all within a close proximity of this place, and all...
Read moreWe were staying in SF for Dreamforce and our local cafe most the time we were there was Eddie's.
Eddie's Cafe is a small, compact typical service at a bar (and few table seating) diner. The staff were friendly and the food service was rather quick.
With it being small, tables can only be held for 45 minutes which in our case wasn't much of an issue. The food is reasonably priced and the food itself tastes reasonably good! Good enough we returned 3 times while we were nearby.
The only issue we had was on the last day, we got seated at the last chair seating as it was busy that day, and had our drinks order taken. 5 mins after we arrived, two large women with a baby arrived and we were asked to move to the bar. The only bar seats were apart from each other so we refused. It made us feel abit uncomfortable and unwelcome as we had been there most mornings and did tip.
We were then moved once another table had left but again, we shouldn't have been moved after we were seated and orders taken. Then when the women came in we found out why we were moved, because they were very friendly with the owners. The same visit, when we went to pay. My partner was asked to sign and tip very bluntly. Being from the UK, tipping is only provided for good service and shouldn't be expected, so that left a sour taste in our mouth.
Overall the cafe is very cute and I would return again on another...
