Horsies calls to mind the most charming aspects of this city from decades long past. Whether drinking amari at one of the half-dozen seats inside, in the Before Times, listening to vinyl cued up from a long shelf of thrift store exotica, or more recently, out at a table in a 19th Street parking space, while the house pianist pounds out 70s AOR hits on the upright grand, competing with the blaring car stereo down the block, there's a rare atmosphere here for which people move to cities in search of, and then bemoan the loss of amidst the metastatic homogeneity of gentrification.
You know what: you prob'ly wouldn't like it! They don't even have a liquor license, so all the drinks are low ABV. Best...
Read moreThis review is for during-pandemic times only. Really nice & friendly neighborhood bar where people know each other. That said, I'm disappointed that they do not appear to be following pandemic guidelines. Their tables are set very close to each other and do not discourage other groups of people from standing close to the tables. Neither do they enforce the 'meal with a drink order' rule. I hope they act more responsibly and I genuinely hope they continue to live on and do good business. Would hate to see this place go, but feel unsafe to go...
Read moreI've never been somewhere with a better more welcoming vibe and atmosphere. Julian and John (pictured) are so lovely and helpful, they make this place what it is. You can always count on great music and drinks (vermouth, beer, local natural wines). Truly, I'd travel across the country just to stop here. I's amazing hole in the wall that really cares about its community and customers. I've never felt more compelled to write a review :)...
