After all these years, it's good to know that Mitchell's hasn't lost its touch. A bud of mine came into the city from out of town and insisted on an authentic SF experience.

Well, if we're talking SF staples, Mitchell's is up there (along with Polly Ann's. Just sayin). Despite the crazy long lines, and touristy attraction, it doesn't take away the staple SF feels and flavors.

BUT with the new, growing (or maybe it was always like this and I've blocked it out of my memory) ppl are getting more and more aggressive. Maybe I went on a terribly bad wkend (Pride), but everyone was so pushy and rude. And it was making the staff a bit pushy and rude. Everyone needed to chill. We were getting ICE CREAM.

Sorry, back to the pt. Haha. They've got everything from your classics of Toasted Almond (personal fav) to your tropical feels of Ube and Lychee, it really doesn't seem like you can go very wrong. And how can you when they let you try anything you want?!

Everyone visiting, pls be chill. We all want our ice cream, but no need to yell. Or stand in the middle of the shop when they're 15 numbers ahead of yours. I literally witnessed three ppl yelling at the staff during my 20min wait to be called. About flavors. About future orders. About things that didn't make sense. That staff has some...

I used to go here practically every Saturday after tap dance and ballet lessons when I was a kid in the 70s thru 80s and found myself going even after through the 90s. I moved away and came back for a visit 4/23/23, some 30 years later, and it was so good to see at least one of the staples in the area is still there, and still the best! I had my usual, black walnut ice cream, dipped in chocolate, and it gave my tastebuds a blast from the past! I was gonna order some lemon chiffon to pack and go, but was saddened they didn't have any. 😔 At any rate, great place and great tastes! Do not hesitate; go! 😊

UPDATE 10/7/24, had to go to the City and stopped by again to get some black walnut ice cream, not only did they NOT have any, but I was informed they replaced it with Banana nut 2 months ago! Blasphemy! WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS??? Black walnut, dipped in chocolate, was a staple, AND you already sell Banana ice cream; why would you replace black walnut with banana nut, which tastes ok, at best? There is no comparison here. To say I'm disappointed, is the nicest thing I can say.

There's no reason for me to go out of my way to go back to Mitchell's now, and that...

My family and I ADORE this mom and pop ice cream shop. The ambience, the service, the people here are timeless. But most importantly, the ice cream is SO DELICIOUS. The flavors are rich and creamy without being too sweet. Do yourself a favor and come here.

When you enter there's a number dispenser on the left side of the doorway. Grab a number so you can try as many flavors as you want. The workers are always so kind and patient. If you're getting prepackaged ice cream you don't need a number. Just come in, grab your gallons then head to the quick checkout line on the right hand side of the counter specifically for that.

Mitchell's also has ice cream cakes you can preorder and customize or buy premade then customize. They also have other sweets so for those times when it's not busy feel free to look around and find other treats.

Honestly, do yourself a favor and come here for some...
