tl;dr: Beautiful but buzzy new spot in the Mission with stellar food (those pancakes!) and friendly kitchen vibes, but the high ceilings and clattering acoustics make conversation nearly impossible. Worth a visit for the food, just don't come hoping for a quiet brunch.
There’s no denying that Four Chairs is doing something right in the kitchen; our brunch was a highlight, especially the spicy chicken muffin (think elevated fast food, in a good way) and delightfully fluffy pancakes that didn’t rely on syrupy excess to win you over. Bonus points for coffee that tasted solid and looked fabulous on the feed. Hats off to the kitchen staff, who were gracious and clearly hustling.
The service from the floor staff was warm and attentive, but the host left us awkwardly lingering at the entrance with no clear direction. Maybe this place has growing pains; it is fresh on the scene and shows in a few seams.
We grabbed a seat by the open window, which translates to gusts of wind and full-volume Mission Street traffic in San Francisco. Not quite the breezy charm we’d hoped for. Inside, the space is visually lovely, trendy, light, with tasteful touches. But acoustically? A mess. The high ceilings and lack of sound treatment mean you're dining inside a reverberating drum. Come here for a date if you want to bond silently over excellent food, not actual conversation.
The titular four chairs may be a statement, but unfortunately, they’re not built for lingering; you slowly slide off them as you eat, and not in a metaphorical, swept-off-your-feet way.
Prices were fair (especially for SF), and the entrance, while a bit narrow, should be manageable for most, though larger mobility devices might find it tight.
Final thought: Worth visiting if you’re chasing flavor over comfort, but I’d give them a few months to tweak the soundscape and fix the furniture situation before coming back...

Read moreI went to Four Chairs with some friends for brunch on a weekday, and the place was packed. We tried making a reservation over the phone, but they said they only take walk-ins. The restaurant is surprisingly quite bigger than we expected. The atmosphere was very lively. The big lights hanging from the ceiling illuminated the entire restaurant. The modern decor went really well with their innovative American breakfast and brunch menu. Most of the dishes that we ordered were very vibrant and colorful. In fact, they have an Instagram worthy drinks section on their menu. Our table ordered : Butterfly lychee Mango Tango Citrus French toast Nova Benny Kinder garden Side of turkey and 2 eggs
Both the drinks (butterfly lychee and mango tango) had the right flavors, but they were super sweet. They almost tasted like a syrup water. I will probably try a different drink next time. While we were seated, we saw a lot of folks order volcano coffee, so maybe I'll get that next time. Nova Benny was phenomenal. The capers added the right saltiness. Hollandaise sauce was smooth and creamy. The only small complaint I have is that the bread was not as good. It was very hard to cut through. Potatoes were cooked well. My friend said that the kinder garden was lacking in flavors. Citrus French toast was really good. It comes with a lot of varieties of fruits, which was a nice little touch. Each table has a 90-minute dining window, as mentioned on their menu. Though I'm not sure if they enforce it. Our servers were very attentive. Overall, it was a good...
