Hit up this Japanese spot in Burlingame and it was honestly such a solid choice. I ordered the Cherry Blossom sushi roll and the Pork Teriyaki Rice, and both were on point.
The Cherry Blossom roll was super fresh — it had this perfect combo of tuna, salmon, and avocado with just the right amount of rice. The fish was buttery and smooth, and the whole thing was topped with this light drizzle of sauce that gave it a nice kick without overpowering the flavor. Really clean and balanced.
Now the pork teriyaki rice? So good. The pork was tender, juicy, and had that caramelized edge from the teriyaki glaze. It came on a bed of fluffy white rice that soaked up all the sauce — every bite was flavorful.
The vibe in the place was chill too — not too loud, staff was super friendly, and everything came out pretty quick. Definitely a spot...
Read moreThe thing to get here is Teppan Curry.
Your dish comes out of the kitchen with a plume of steam. It's a cast iron skillet, with an egg frying on it, with rice and your breaded meat or vegetable of choice on top. (I recommend the chicken katsu.) A gravy boat full of Japanese curry comes on the side.
I like to quickly scramble the eggs and get more rice up against the skillet so it'll get crispy, and then I dip chicken into the gravy boat till it's gone, then pour the curry over the rice and egg.
Tip: if you have a solid chunk of rice, e.g. by successfully frying it against the skillet while it's still hot, you can drop it in the gravy boat after it's empty and move it around to capture more of the delicious curry.
You can ask for pickles (radish, I think?) on the side, which go great with the final, rice...

However, I really don't like the vegan chicken teriyaki dish and that's why I'm giving 3/5. There should not be a great dish on the menu along with a below average dish. The main issue with the chicken teriyaki is the vegan protein, it's just really weird. It looks like it's made from gobo root and gives it a crunchy texture which to me is off-putting. All other restaurants that offer veggie options use soy-based proteins or tofu or just vegetables. I do appreciate vegan options on this menu but the vegan protein needs a...
