I went to Orphan Andy's yesterday March 10,2014 and had a hankering for their wonderful Fish and Chips which I deemed best the the city of San Francisco. Well the Fish n Chips was good, about a year ago. The oil in the fryer hadn't been changed, and I got this order of fried fish that was obviously a product inferior to anything remotely close to what I've had there in the past. I called my server over, and told him it was not what I expected, and the fries looked old like they had been cooked an hour prior. He asked me if I wanted another order of fries, no mention of a replacement for the nasty fish. The replacement order of fries was only slightly better and that's when I put 2 and 2 together and deemed the oil hadn't been changed in a few thousand miles. I quietly told the server this and he just half smiled and didn't even take anything off my check. I have been to Orphan Andy's on several occasions, and this was the worst, they used to have great food, but they have gone way downhill, apparently the owner doesn't care, nor do the people he/she hires. I won't be back ever. IF I could give a negative 5 stars I would. The decor needs some refreshing as well, you'd be amazed at what a coat of paint would do. The landlord is probably raising the rent and the owner of Orphan Andy's probably can't wait to get out of his/her lease. Typical for San Francisco, especially The Castro.here's a hint, you can't give crappy food at a ridiculous price and expect people...
Read moreI approached the restaurant on the sidewalk with my live-in aid and stood at the telephone pole finishing my cigar and a drunken individual wobbly approached us and kept repeating in Spanish “ no, no, no estas entro” and waving us away from Orphan Andys. While waiting for our third patriet to shuffle up to us, who is a three hundred pound disabled individual, the drunken gentleman continued to repeat in Spanish that we could not enter Orphan Andys and being that I suffer from Multiple Sclerosis, I’m protective of my personal space so I leaned into the drunk fellow and politely stated in Spanish “sir, I am not your friend but me and my friend are going to eat here. The gentleman stepped back and stepped into a small potted tree of O.As, toppling the tree over, jumped up and darted down the sidewalk. Out of kindness, I politely grabbed the tree and righted it as best I could, with Multiple Sclerosis. The Owner appeared in the entrance of O.As stating rather rudely, “No, you guys can’t come in thinking many we had actually knocked the tree over not knowing I was simply correcting the drunk man’s folly. After trying to explain what had just occurred, still we were denied the anticipated pleasure of actually dining at the restaurant. THis establishment was very rude and would never get the pleasure any of my money. I spent $40 to ferry two cars to this place and we were treated better...
Read moreI don’t usually post reviews. As someone who owns a queer business and caters to the queer community, I understand how upsetting it is to have an unfair 1 star review for something that is beyond your control. You have a person on your staff who has been incredibly rude to my partner and I the last 3 times we have come here. The young trans spectrum/non-binary person on your staff who usually wears all black refused to seat my partner and I in a booth after waiting an hour in line and being told by the other server that we would be getting the next booth. This person said that they have the right to decide if we sit or not and then sat 2 groups ahead of us. I don’t know if this person has something against us personally or just like to power trip, but every time I have interacted with them they have been purposely rude, distracted, slow and honestly seem like they are in an opiate haze. I’ve been coming to Orphan Andy’s for years, and part of what makes it so awesome is the staff has always been so amazing and friendly. I have always been friendly to the staff and I tip 25 percent on principle to support my community. Queer people have to worry enough about being treated poorly in the world as it is without being treated that way by a place that is supposed to be run by our community for our community....
