Precita Park Café is a great option for all times of the day if you're looking for good food at reasonable (but still San Francisco-style) prices. Their breakfast/lunch menu is pretty diverse, though I agree with the other reviewer who mentioned that there are not a lot of vegetarian options. Before 5pm, it is self-seating, order at the counter, with table service (they give you a number). I recommend their french toast, and any of their egg dishes for breakfast. At lunch, the Supreme Veggie sandwich is good, as are their burgers. The smoothies can be iffy, depending on who is making them, and how busy it is. The coffee is always great.
After 5pm, it is a typical San Francisco dinner locale, with a contemporary American menu. You have to wait to be seated, and they give you a one-page menu and about 3 pages of wine/beverage selection. They have a wonderful dinner menu that changes periodically, so as to keep things interesting for the locals that frequent PPC. They also carry Mitchell's ice cream as well as locally-baked goodies for dessert, not to mention their gourmet dessert menu.
This place has become a neighborhood fixture, and has a local following that keeps the place pretty busy most of the day. On weekends, business is booming. After 8:30 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, you will most likely have to wait in line to get your coffee and/or order your food. By 11 on weekends, the place is packed! Noise level can be significant, but there is good outdoor seating, weather permitting.
Sometimes the staff can be a little surly, but don't let that put you off. PPC is great, and worth the trip to Bernal Heights. Plus, Precita Park is right across the street and PPC is kid-friendly. So bring the children! There's a Kids' Menu for the little ones. Afterwards, go play in the park across the street and take a whirl on the Satellite Spinner, a playground feature that has been there for more than 30...
Read moreOk I live one block away. I have been going here since they opened, and since they opened in 2011,I have been "giving them another shot to iron the kinks out", it is time to face facts this cafe has no heart and never will have. I like some of the food, I basically only order two things there, it has always been inconsistent depending on the cook, the coffee is so watery( even the dark roast) I usually bring my own or walk to charlie's to get some, and it has always been too expensive for what it is. The side of a sandwich is a measly snack bag of overly salty potato chips. I was told it would be $4 extra for egg whites and that is just criminal! So no more breakfasts there for me, I still eat lunch there twice a week out of convenience .The people working there have never been friendly, for the most part I'm greeted with " what do you want" and an eye roll, and one of the guys consistently slams my food on the table as far away from me as he can get it....who does that?.. but now on top of the rude service that has me questioning my food spending habits, they are closed for food between 4 and 6... the time I eat my lunch each day. The neighborhood doesn't need a fancy restaurant in the evening, I have never been satisfied with my meals at dinner there. The atmosphere is lacking and the portions are tiny. Every time I did eat dinner there I wished it was the lunch sandwich options. I give up trying ppc. Why have I tried to like you for so many years when you just Phone it in? I have been taking my business to other cafes in the area lately and I don't even care if I eat mediocre food, at least it's consistently mediocre and I get a sincere "hi,how are you?"...
Read moreNegatively treated, by both front and back of house. 8:07am. Came in, no rush, no other inside customers, and was politely treated as I ordered two breakfast sandwich equivalents. My partner had her service animal, and we went outside to walk the dog. While they did their business outside I returned at 8:12. There was a group of four at the register, the only other customers inside at the moment, so i sat at an empty table in the nearly empty cafe. When the four left, the server at register smiled and said "Hi." The smile dropped and she asked "can I help you?" I said "yeah, I'm waiting for my order: two breakfast sandwiches under [my name]" She walked to the kitchen and spoke to the chef who was standing by the entry to the kitchen. I felt awkward, like my clean black coveralls flagged homeless person to them and therefore was being treated poorly. No admission that I'd spoken with her five minutes prior. When the food came out, I brought it and my partner to the airport. After dropping them off at 8:40am, I began to snack. The sandwich had a strange consistency, like I'd accidentally bitten the wrapper. I looked closely, and there was paper in the sandwich, possibly from the tomatoes. Like it had been prepped and stored and not completely unwrapped. Overall a poor experience, one that I won't attempt to reproduce...
