Visited this place after looking for a place to eat for lunch. Seemed to be a new lunch spot providing new options for the workers in the area tucked into the plaza. Expanding from their Marina location, they made their way down to SOMA opening this place.
Upon walking into this place, it seems like a restaurant meant for a quick bite with takeout. It's very bright and very modern styled spot with a friendly atmosphere. In the back, the place is where the ordering happens and the rest of the magic.
I ended up ordering the Paleo. Wanted to go with more vegetables and meat option instead of the having the rice accompanying the meal. Took the recommendation of getting the egg on the side. After receiving it seems pretty well presented. Vegetables layered on the bottom with the steamed chicken layered on top and the poached egg on the side. Layering on top is the cilantro, sauces, and the soup finishing off the plate.
Starting off the soup. I will say this option was a superb compliment to the soup tasting like home. It had a bit of a sour taste, but the flavor from some vegetables that probably have been in the pot for a while.
The chicken had a bit of a supple, moist flavor with which had a nice vinegar like taste from the sauce with some spice. With flavors of the egg meshing with the chicken, it provides a great fulfilling experience to the meal.
Overall I would say this place is a great recommendation to get a pretty close traditional meal while being a tad experience. Due to the price, I will give it a 4...
Read moreThis place has became quickly not worth its price. They have a very simple model which is nice for someone like myself who eats healthy regularly. Every time I’ve ordered there, I have easily spent over $25 for the most simple items just for myself. I believe their portions sizes have gotten smaller since I’ve first started ordering there over 2 years ago. $25+ for a single chicken breast over brown rice, some cucumbers, cilantro, a small container of broth, 2 eggs, and veggies. They don’t have a wide selection for me to choose from in terms of wanting to do half brown rice half veggies for my bowls. I have to pay for a tiny container of veggies on the side. They don’t have a wide selection if you don’t want an unhealthy meal either. The food is good in a healthy standard but that’s it. There’s not much to the atmosphere there, as it’s a small store, and you order from a kiosk with hardly any staff up front unless they drop off your food. I write this review because I don’t intend on ordering from here again after trying this place for over 2 years now. Step up your game, gives us more options, increase portion sizes for the prices, or lower your prices and then I may consider coming back. If not, then I hope people heed this review and don’t waste...
Read moreDelicious Thai Chicken and Rice (Khao Mun Gai) in a variety of cleverly named variations:
1 - The Original: Breast and thigh with skin, jasmine white rice ($11.95) 2 - The Marina: All breast, skinless, organic brown rice ($12.95) 3 - The Vegetarian: Organic tofu, brown rice and seasonal veggies ($9.95) 4 - The Paleo: Breast or thigh & seasonal veggies ($12.95)
They seem to offer a veggie option, though to be honest, not sure why a vegetarian would go here...
The chicken is incredibly moist, the chicken rice is delicious, and it comes with an assortment of sauces! I like to think it's healthy when I plan to only eat 1/3 of the rice, but in the end, I always finish every last grain - soo good!
Only reason for no 5 stars is the price seems a bit high, especially since there are no vegetables. If you add veggies ($2) it's really only a few pieces of broccoli. I'd love to see them add a broader range of vegetables and include it in the original.
At the time of this writing, there are three Rooser & Rices in SF -...
