The issue I have is that if you appear like, or smell like a homeless person - the property's private security guards will come out of nowhere, to inform "you" that you are not welcome, and must get off the property asap. Apparently there are several high resolution cameras monitoring the garden park 24/7, to make certain that riffraff do not defile the grounds, and the "nicer / normal" people are not molested or inconvenienced.
As a homeless person, I have been coaxed by these friendly guards, several times. I only come to visit to get away from the drug addicts and aggressive individuals that do harass passersby and pedestrians on the neighboring streets. But to be treated like an unwelcomed stray animal. Demonstrates the pretentious double standards of the property's management.
Having experienced first hand this double standard of not being welcome. I am sorry that I can not rate this place with five stars.
Obviously this property is backed by serious money, so they can do what ever they want to do with it (just like President Trump), even though the un-neighborly treatment of the wretched of the city is shabby credit for those backers. Perhaps offer those wretches found on the property access to a non gender restroom equipped with a shower. To make themselves clean and decent, and let them go into the grounds, if they cooperate. Those whom refuse could leave or be a problem. The core of the issue, is that there are few to no access to toilet facilities, for the homeless poor. So public deffecating on sidewalks, in alleys, between parked vehicles, is becoming a worsening problem for the city's public works department.
Neglecting the problem, is like condoning it until it...
Read moreSan Francisco is home to some of the most beautiful parks - Yerba Buena Gardens is one of them. There are beautifully maintained grounds despite it being in the busy area around South of Market and Mission (SoMa), with so much daily foot traffic. Grab a bite to eat inside the Metreon or at Target right next door and take it outside. There are ample grassy areas to chill, many amazing plants and trees (seasonal blooms such as cherry blossom, bougainvilleas, and magnolia trees to name a few) to admire, a Martin Luther King Memorial with inspired messages and a powerful waterfall you could walk under or zone out watching, stairs to an upper area with even more benches, an infinity pool style fountain and gorgeous plants and cityscape views of surrounding buildings including the St. Patrick's church across the street, museums such as SFMOMA, and gorgeous architectural buildings. If there's time, you could easily spend many hours exploring surrounding areas, as it is part of a larger development that stretches across the street to the carousel and discovery areas that's great, for families, friends, a date idea, and so on. There are occasional homeless people as it is right in a busy area, but nothing to be surprised about living, visiting or exploring a city. May they get the support they need to be housed and get out of their situations. I feel both the sadness and awe of the stark differences of these experiences and pause to reflect. As busy as it gets, the gardens provide this space. Let's respect it and keep it clean, follow the simple rules and...
