So I went to a very large restaurant in West portal the day before and I had a very good meal. I did not feel sick after the next day I went to this restaurant and I woke up sick the next day. It’s happened to me every time I’ve gone to this restaurant. So every time I go there to eat I get sick now and it’s a snotty nose stuffy full on sick in my lungs the whole thing my conclusion is they’re not washing the dishes enough. This is a family location. A lot of families and kids are always there maybe we need to consider that in our dishwashing considering last time there was a. Kid with a cell phone in my ear playing cartoons at the bar well, his parents ignored him. His cell phone was literally underneath my ear as I ate a $60 meal I’m so pissed off. The bathroom is overflowing with a some sort of pipe problem for the last two years. My last review was very nice and friendly but this one I’m going to tell the truth you’re wontons tasted horrible whatever oil you cook them in and the fish is incredibly tasty and fresh when the eel always taste like gasoline or whatever you. Cooked it under a flame with a lot of gas and then it taste like gas I’ve never told you that but here it goes. There’s the truth folks the truth is you’ve been half way there for too long. I heard the Clement restaurant is the best one and this one is a runner up and it definitely is a runner up after my experience last night and spending $60 on a meal that I could not enjoy it and I had a stomach ache after from having cartoons blasted in my ear Buy a child that was being ignored by his parents and also by the weight staff while I was eating I’m not sure I will be back two blocks from my house and this is what I get. Well, I guess the shootings at the end of the block go along with the rest of it this neighborhood sucks. But I do intend to clean it up and I have contacted the police department and now I’ll contact the building department since you have not been able to contact the building department and turn your owner in the building is obviously not maintaining the building which is exactly the same as across the street because my landlord also owns the building across the street that’s not being maintained and also my building here on Miramar as I’m not being maintained. A lot of people don’t like to maintain buildings and then they like to make...
Read moreLet's start with what I like.
• Restrooms are all singles. And they're all "All Gender". Beautiful. • There's no paper towels in the restrooms, only hand dryers. Great, save the environment. • Food was great. They even serve fresh wasabi at the price of $3. Unfortunately, the fresh wasabi is mixed with green onions and garlic, and it looks very liquid. Other than that, it definitely tastes like real wasabi. • We got a floor table, but it's not really "floor". You'd have to take your shoes off (fantastic, love this), and they have space for you to put your feet down, so you actually feel like sitting on a chair. You don't have to cross your legs. I don't know how to best describe this, but yeah, I hope you get what I meant. • The hot green tea was good, but it's $1 per person. It's a good green tea though. • The Lion King (I think that's the baked salmon?) was great. • The chicken karaage is a bit different. It's in small pieces, but they're good.
Now, let's talk about what I don't like (or I hope would change):
• The sink for hand washing would be better with sensors. When I went there, one of them was still running and no one was there. Such a waste of water. • For the skewers, they should put the number of skewers that you'd get. I ordered "2 Yakitori" and "3 Kawa (Chicken Skin)". What I got was 4 skewers of yakitori and 6 skewers of chicken skin. We still ate them all, but on the menu, there are some items that end with "... (2 pcs)". Hence, I assumed that the ones without that would only be 1 piece. The server told us that each skewer order comes with 2 pcs. So, why would some menu have explicit "(2 pcs)" on it? • The chicken skin skewer is also very crispy, which I don't like very much. I like the skin to be soft. So, if you like super crispy skin, you'd definitely like this. • I was expecting the standard oyako donburi would be served, but they don't serve that. They serve other things like curry donburi or bbq eel. • I would love them to also have katsu curry though, I would definitely come there to get to-go order if they do (along with oyako donburi).
Overall, I'd definitely come back to this place. It's nice to have a "high-end" feeling restaurant like this on Ocean Ave! This place is definitely the nicest there is...
Read moreMost of the items we ordered here were not fresh, and my wife ended up getting food poisoning. We started with the dozen oysters for $1 each, which was a great deal and we love oysters. Unfortunately, the second oyster I put in my mouth tasted rotten and I had to spit it out. My wife also encountered an off one and we ended up sending the whole plate back mostly uneaten. It was still on the bill and we had to ask to have the charge removed at the end of the meal. Another surprisingly gross thing was the garden salad. It tasted like it had been made many hours before and sat in the back of some cooler. The edges of the iceberg lettuce were brown, and the dressing seemed like it had been partially absorbed into the lettuce due to sitting for so long. The small strips of carrots tasted like cleaning fluid. May have been the worst salad I've ever had to be honest. We didn't finish that, either. The only good thing we had was the nigiri sushi, which we both felt was fresh and tasty. We ordered a spicy scallop roll as well, that ended up being unappetizing - very bitter for some reason. The service was actually really good; it was the food that let us down. Overall, very disappointed in the food handling and quality control of this restaurant. Not sure if we just got unlucky, but my wife has been in the bathroom for the last 12 hours a day after eating here. I would suggest going somewhere else for japanese cuisine.
Edit: I also got stomach flu symptoms a day after my wife did. 99% sure it was...
