El Farolito will always have a special place in my heart for one reason: on our wedding night, we stopped by here after drinking and dancing for hours, ravenous with hunger. We had run on adrenaline most of the day but we needed real food and when your new bride wants nothing more than veggie nachos, you abide. With the meter running outside, I walked past a line of at least 40 people to the register, fully in my wedding tux. I spoke to the cashier in my best Spanish explaining our situation and that her Mom was even from the same county as the owners. He looked at me for a second, looked at the long line I had just cut, and asked me what I wanted. I gave him my order and he said "5 minutes". 10 minutes later, we were devouring our good in our living room, in our full wedding garb. Epic kindness on a special night.
Even without that story, EF was in my top 2, right there with Taqueria Cancun. This is as legit as it gets, an expert shop that moves more business in a day than several other local ones combined. Come ready to order, don't ask for recommendations, learn the system and things will go well for...
Read moreI was having a late night craving for some food and a friend of mine told me about this place. I was a little skeptical being that it was such narrow spacing and kind of a hold in the wall. But the place was packed at 2 in the morning and there was a lot of hustle and bustle going on. I ordered a Super grilled chicken burrito, no onions no tomatoes. Most would say, whats the point if no salsa? But I have a thing.
I had a hard time getting my money out of my wallet and the clerk seemed annoyed but he took my order. I waited about 5-8 minutes before my order was ready, not too bad considering the crowd. I have to say, for my burrito to have no salsa, it was very tasty. Nice and juicy, not dry like most places, or as my friend says "tastes only like rice burrito". It was awesome. I couldn't finish it until the next day....or so many hours later since it was already 2am, but it was just as good later on. I will definitely be going back, I'll just remember to have my money in hand next time. :)
I plan on trying the nachos next, I hear they are "the bomb" and...
Read moreWOW! As tourists from Texas looking for "The Best Burrito in the Bay Area" I think we may have found it here at El Farolito! There are a few Mission District area institutions that get high marks, but this is the one that is open very late! Don't let the outside appearance or rampant homeless people on drugs scare you away... the food in here is legit!
We had a Super Burrito with Steak... and for the size, price and flavor I would have to give this my "Jared Award" for the best burrito I have ever had. Yep. It was to die for. I washed it down with a Mexican lime soda in a glass bottle and had a chicken taco just for good measure.
My wife and I were easily able to split the burrito, making this meal among the cheapest we had in our San Fransisco visit.
The place was small, cramped, a little messy and sketchy as hell from the street... but inside it was nothing but pure burrito bliss. This is coming from a Texan. Absolutely legit, do not come here without eating a burrito. And by "here" I don't mean the Mission District, I mean the bay area of California....
