I can't rate this place with stars because i didn't try anything. Saw a couple menu items outside that sounded interesting but weren't my taste but thought they must have something that would interest me. Went inside, the tall man behind the counter gave me one look, nothing about him was welcoming, then eyes back on the TV. I glanced over the menu but didn't have anything grab my attention (don't misunderstand, a lot of interesting items worth trying, i just have a very American pallet) so i was going to grab something down the block and at least get a cup of coffee on the way back to my car (as I'm always looking for a new favorite coffee shop) and glance over the menu a second time. As i turn to leave, the man behind the counter, without taking his eyes off the TV, says something audibly in his native tongue. He could have just as likely been telling me to have a nice day. However the manner it was presented was quite rude. I don't understand the Japanese salutations they say upon arrival or departure of a Japanese restaurant but it's always presented with a friendly and welcoming tone. This was not that. Consider this constructive criticism. I would recommend anyone who's considering trying their food to do so. I WAS considering bringing friends here to try their food and still may do so. But to the owner/ manager, please understand you're in the business of customer service, not food. There are coffee shops that i go to infrequently that have garbage coffee. And i'll buy coffee. Why? Very welcoming and friendly...
Read moreI like this place, I actually do, I just can’t understand what happened the other day. I don’t wanna go back. I’ve come here a few times and enjoyed it, but not yesterday. I came here yesterday, bought something, and left to grocery shop on Mission. After a while, I came back and asked to use the bathroom. I saw the bathroom was locked and told them I just bought something. They told me I have to have my receipt to use the bathroom and the only way to use it is to buy something else. I was really offended. I was a paying customer and they wouldn’t let me use their bathroom until I spent more money on something I didn’t want, I already bought my coffee. Super insulting. I felt disrespected. I don’t want give them my...
Read moreMy favorite cafe in the mission. I am grateful for their cappuccinos and bagels and the kindness the owner has shown me. Not friendliness, which anyone can give--real kindness. I had only recently moved to the neighborhood and come in to the cafe a few times when I came in on a rainy day. Without me asking, the owner gave me an umbrella and told me to bring it back if I remembered, but that it was ok if I forgot. A lot of coffee shops (and businesses in general) in SF are aesthetically-pleasing but feel heartless and like you could find them in any city. La Boheme really feels like a center of...
