The Food There’s a good variety of clay pots to choose, from your main meats of beef, pork, and chicken to anything like seafood, frog, and even pig’s feet. One special service they have is the small pot of soup they bring at the beginning for free (call it appetizer if you will) while you wait for your food. The soup is light with pork, carrots, bean curds, and yellow beans. For the clay pots, I’ve tried few different ones here before, and they were all pretty good. But the Taishan Yellow Eel (黄鳝饭) is my go-to dish because I like Eels, and the dish bring back a nostalgic hometown taste.
The Service and Restaurant The service in general is normal and good. The food comes out to table in a reasonable time. Out of all the time I’ve been there, I have yet to have a bad experience with their service. The restaurant quite spacious with good amount of room and lighting. There are different size tables to accommodate various party sizes.
The Menu and Price There are a few places around the area that serves clay pot dishes, but not so much clay pot rice. The Claypot House is of a niche place that serves clay pot rice and have a good variety. Along with their clay pot rice, they also have Steamed Lotus Leaf Dishes, Taishan Specialty Dishes, and variety of Soups. Though the prices of these dishes are not what you would call cheap, I believe they are still...
Read moreNostalgic and authentic! Really filled my claypot craving, and will return for some traditional canto herbal soups. They had plenty of soups on the menu that my mom made for me growing up. Pretty quiet on a Thursday night. Many Chinese elders were in to enjoy dinner, which is a great sign on the food quality.
We enjoyed the yellow eel and Chinese sausage pot and the sausage, duck, preserved meats, and fish fillet pot. One claypot was crispier than the other and had more rice crust. The restaurant gave us complimentary soups which I enjoyed a lot. I think there is either a secret menu or just on request to order sautéed veggie greens because some tables around us ordered different plates of greens but I didn't see it on the menu. Lots of traditional Chinese desserts on the menu which were tempting, but we were too stuffed to order any...
Read moreThis place is so different from previous years, price is doubled but the clay pot is not authentic as before. It tasted like they steamed rice then pull into a clay pot. Look at the bottom of the pot, how can you see any signs of clay pot cooking method? I raised my concerns to the owner, she didn’t look at what I was trying to show her but in stead, she was yelling, defending that her restaurant is known for clay pot and in business for decades. She completely refused to admit, to look at it, instead, she stood by the table and talking like yelling, non stopping. I don’t thinking I am going to spend $20 for a clay pot filled with steamed rice and got yelled at. I will...
