Unfortunately nothing pleasant about our experience here. All food items were over flavored/sauced/extremely salty. We ordered: burger, fried chicken sando, salad, fries, pork bao, scallion pancake. Fries were so over flavored we lost interest in them, who loses interest in fries?! Yuzu seltzer was good. Negroni was a Negroni, and beer was a beer. Wait staff were rude and reprimanded us for the majority of our interactions. Despite it being a bar you have to wait to be seated, this isn't clear but we figured it out. The first waitstaff came to us, told us there was no table but we could do the bar - great! We'd take the bar. The bartender in charge looked at us and said "please go wait by the door." We told them we were told to go to the bar and they snapped back at us "I don't have bar seats, go wait by the door." About 5 min later we were seated at the bar. The woman who sat us told us to order food with the QR code TAPED TO EVERY PLACE AT THE BAR and to put the drink order in with the bartender. So we did this. Then our a bartender told us that we should not do that, but it was too late so we moved on. She was nice. A different bartender checked us out and then reprimanded us for following these directions and said they were "training a few people tonight." Totally fine, but don't be rude to your customers - it's not our fault, we followed directions given to us. They also reprimanded us for trying to stack our plates when finished saying, "I know you're trying to help but just don't." It's also extremely loud and, just all around unpleasant, sadly.
If they're still around in 6-8 months we may give them another try because we live in the neighborhood and would love to have another local spot with good food and drinks, but right now - this isn't it. Unless you feel like being reprimanded over extremely salty food. ¯(ツ)/¯
Update: we are now about an hour and a half from dining and my husband is not doing well in...
Read moreCute, overpriced place with food that was tasty but average. I wish we had the same friendly service as most reviews have written. We were asked to wait outside (?) when an open bar area was available. Maybe the server didn't see how windy it was, but I said we'd prefer to wait inside, maybe order a drink at the uncrowded bar...Service wasn't bad, it was just detached. About the drinks - Mini bottles of Coke and Sprite were $7. That seem excessive. The passionfruit mocktail was served in a 5 oz glass. It would be nice if they'd label the size on the menu if it's $14. Only a few drinks have the ml. listed. Food came out really fast and was ok. Compliments include the Bok Choy, I just wish it had a little more of they tasty mint-cilantro dressing, and the Sweet Potato Mochi - sweet and fried like a dessert - very excellent! The Boa however was described as having house pickles, but sadly mine did not have any. The Scallion Pancake's dipping sauce was overly salty while the cucumber salad tasted watered down. The rice with my son's meal was really dry. I was surprised we were asked "Do you want the check" instead of "Would you like to order any dessert" because we had wanted to try the chocolate cake, but at that point, I was fine...
Read moreRejoice! A tastefully thought out & designed place that you'd want to go to in the Mission. This is important because this part of the Mission has a dearth of fun food/cocktail places. For a place that's brand new, the offerings and service are already impressive. I can't wait to go again when it's fully ramped up.
The pork belly thing was top notch; rivaling what you'd get at Chairman Bao. MOIST, tender pork belly marinated in some asian flavor sauce stuffed betwixt fluffy steamed buns that all coalesce into a party in your mouth. The spiced peanuts (salt, szechuan peppercorns, more salt, chilis) come in a huge bowl; can be a meal in itself, and are a perfect accompaniment to slow (or fast) imbibing whilst socializing.
The drinks on the menu are way beyond innovative. Want a drink that reminds you of your last scuba dive? Then step right up to the "Dark Waters", replete with seaweed infused gin & a splash of squid ink. It's definitely memorable. They have a bunch of asian brewed spirits as well, even more than what you'd find at LiPo or the Buddha Lounge, or other places in Japantown or Chinatown. So if you wanna try out some Taiwanese brewed whiskey (that exists?), then saddle up to this new bright spot...
