I ve literally been eating at Tsing Tao for 30 years (15 original location on Clement st & the rest this location). Tonight ended my option for a Chinese restaurant for delivery. I ordered fried wonton, curry chicken, chili pepper prawns, & steamed rice for the curry chicken. One thing I've always loved about them was fast & hot delivery. At least that hasn't changed. But they now use processed "white meat" chicken. I've ordered chicken dishes enough to know what kind of chicken they use & this is NOT what they used to use. I called to complain about the chicken & had to argue with, I'm guessing, the owner for a good 5 minutes. He repeatedly claimed they've always used the same chicken. After repeatedly telling him I've eaten there for over a decade, he acknowledged he remembers me eating there for years. INSTEAD of trying to hold onto a longtime customer, after finally agreeing to refund my money for the chicken (I could have asked for my $4 back for rice since I got it for the chicken but didnt), he said next time I wanted to order Chinese food to not call them. If you're going to be in the restaurant business, you SHOULD be able to take criticism but no, he'd rather lose a customer who had been eating there for over a decade. For a few years, I had ordered from them at least once a week. I know plenty of other people who "eat" there on a regular basis but I will make sure they dont so maybe I'll get him to lose enough business, he'll realize being in the restaurant business in SF means you treat ALL customers with respect or you CLOSE. In addition to using poor quality processed chicken, the sweet & sour "sauce" they now use is more like Hawaiian Punch with some water & corn syrup AND they no longer have fortune cookies. What kind of Chinese restaurant doesn't have fortune cookies?? Oh & they write their own positive reviews. I remember they had an employee use her real name to write a couple 5 star reviews (I ordered from her all the time so it was definitely her who wrote them). So, if you're looking for flavorful Chinese food for delivery, find someplace else. There must be places that DON'T tell you to never order from them again because...
Read moreThe weird part about 'Tsing Tao' was the fact that the restaurant has photos of its dishes in the exact same place, and set in the exact same frames - I guess you could call them - as Chinese take outs 1700 miles away in Detroit. Even weirder, is that the photos are exactly the same, and most of the dishes in the photos aren't on the 'Tsing Tao' menu. Seems to be a ubiquitous feature of every hole in the wall Chinese restaurant. However, 'Tsing Tao' is a pretty big hole: it has quite a few seats in it; unusual. As for the food: everything tastes the same, no matter what its name is, well, of course, soap is different from an egg roll, otherwise the main courses are basically pretty generic. Although Chinese take out is rather expensive in Detroit, the prices at 'Tsing Tao' were even more so, and not the cheapest I've seen for food of the kind. I guess the lunch menu is more reasonable, but expect to pay 10 bucks plus for a single...
Read moreUpdate:Recent meal is now $10 and a painful stomach ache/food poisoning😤. Never going back. Tasty Kung Pao chicken, fresh ingredients and generous portion for under $8. Definitely worth for another visit to try other favorites. The customer service for phone ordering is not friendly and unprofessional. Recent visit ordered general Tao's chicken it looked nice and edible but nothing close to real general Tao's chicken it tasted more like sweet and sour chicken but no sourness just sweet and a little spicy. I believe the creator of general Tao's chicken would roll in his grave if he realized how his beloved dish has been so poorly executed and labeled as general...
