We came across this little ice cream store, tucked into a storefront on Fillmore street, after taking a walking tour in the neighborhood. But talking to some of the other customers in line, it sounds like this store has been an institution in the neighborhood for decades. It's exactly what it sounds like, an old fashioned ice cream store. We LOVED it. The tiny store shelves are lined with every candy you can think of in glass jars. You can choose from tons of ice cream flavors, buy a sandwich or a soda, or have an ice cream shake, ice cream soda or ice cream sundae made for you. Our family tried all three and they were delicious. The owner served us personally and he was so nice and patient as my daughters took forever to decide what they would like. He was happy to give us large samples of the more unusual ice cream flavors (I tried avocado) and took his time to prepare our order with great care. It was so fun to watch. We really felt like we had stepped back in time! If I lived in this neighborhood, I would get ice cream here all the time. Payment is in cash only. There is no room to sit inside, but there are a few tables on the sidewalk in front...

I don't know how this place has nearly 5 stars. It is dusty, dirty, disorganized, service is slow, ice cream freezers are disorganized and dirty. The ice cream flavors are not all accurately labeled. There is a bunch of dusty tchotchkes knickknacks all around the store. There was a large trash bag that hadn't been closed or taken out to the trash. Bananas lying on newspapers near the floor and cans of nacho chips. I won't be coming back

The ice cream was Mitchell's brand and the server was very nice, albeit very slow and didn't track what he needed to charge for. He did take time to give samples and apologize for the flavors that weren't available.

There is no indoor or outdoor seating.

The flavors posted are not what is available that day, only what was in the freezers but that's not written anywhere. The signs say over 100 flavors but I only counted 20 in the freezer. I don't think I'll be back with so many other ice cream...

Just like old times, the man feels like a weathered champion of a small sandwich and ice cream shop. Very neighborhood friendly shop and store owner. I didn’t believe the sandwich price at first but then it came with a side of tortilla chips and a macaroni salad, this is one of the treasures of SF, you would be hard pressed to find an offer like this in or around San Francisco. Clean cut sandwiches, the taste is good.

I went back to get some ice cream and hour later. Mislabeled grasshopper ice cream- was just mint, but I didn’t mind.

His service and polite character is something I hope many other places big or small would adhere to, as if it were a bygone era in the Bay Area, but it’s here, it’s him! I wonder how it would be if he had seating, but that would probably raise the prices — the place is really good as it is. The owner, his food and his service fill you up and make you a...

I ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ this place. The owner, Tom is solid, kind, hands down, traditional, & old school. I walked into his shop about 8 years ago for the first time, by chance & I've been a regular ever since. My oldest son who is now 12, as well as my youngest that is now 7 have been regulars. 🙂 He sells Mitchell's as well as Bud's ice cream. He makes excellent sandwiches at an unbelievable price, as well. I always make it a point to stop by Miyako when I am in the Fillmore. His shop is a neighborhood gem, and that's putting it lightly. He's a Godsend. I love to support mom & pop businesses. He's one of a kind. I also ❤️❤️❤️ the fact that he has bowls filled with candy for sale. He also sells cigarettes (rebel! 🤣). I love real people and Tom is just about as real as real gets. He is cash only and, I love the sign that he has up that reads, CASH ONLY, NO CREDIT, PLEASE DON'T ASK. He's as sharp as a tack.

This is a historical landmark and place, in its own right, as this is a family run business, long standing, in the community and they've kept the prices low and competitive! The sandwiches and ice cream cones are crafted with love, as the original owner is still active, serving flavorful ice cream cones to his patrons and crafting those delicious sandwiches. You have to stop by and treat yourself to a cone, of one of the owner's various selections of flavors, including specialty flavors. Or maybe you would like one of his delicious sandwiches, including hot pastrami, with nacho chips and your choice of potato salad or cole slaw. I recommend the slaw: it's delicious. 💯😋 All for a REMARKABLE price. 👌🏾

Sort of an interesting cultural experience. The owner an elderly gentleman, very sweet man, owned the place for over 30 years. He works there everyday. So it's more about the experience then the ice cream per se. But milk shakes are tasty..... Definitely not 100 flavors. They have Coney Island Frank's, etc...They resell Mitchell's and Dryers ice cream. Which are definitely not 4.9 ice cream brands. A blast from the past, and a neighborhood haunt. This neighborhood in SF hasn't gotten off the ground over 40 years. A perpetual bad neighborhood....but again is worth supporting the owner!
