At one time, I wouldn't have considered staying in a hotel with shared bathrooms and showers but I've changed my mind. Everything here is spotless and clean-smelling! The price is half of what you'd pay for a similar room elsewhere in S.F. I've never had to wait to get into the bathrooms or shower, in fact, I rarely see other guests. Another standout is the bright, beautiful kitchen. It's at the corner of the building and it's flooded with morning light. There is a full size refrigerator and microwave there. Here is what truly makes this place special: the neighborhood outside the door. Hayes Valley is one of the livliest parts of the city. There are probably at least 20 unique restaurants within a five minute walk. There are interesting shops all around, a laundromat nearby and Trader Joe's grocery store is within easy walking distance. It's really feels like you're in the center of all the action. Public transit is good. A unique thing about this inn is that there is no front desk. Everything is done on the Internet or the phone. Even the room key is stored on your phone. Make sure you keep it charged! Make sure the inn has your cell phone number and that you have the code to open the front door. There are two (slight) negatives I should mention: outdoor noise can be loud sometimes. There are sidewalk cafes right outside the inn. The good news there is that these places aren't open late. They close at 10:00 or 11:00 pm. Second (slight) negative: There is no elevator. This could be an issue for some visitors. If noise is an issue, the higher up you go, the quieter it is. Just thought of something else to mention: I've stayed here twice in two different rooms. The first room had a TV with hundreds of cable channels. The second had only 10-15 basic broadcast channels. If you like watching TV (or if you're traveling with kids), request a room with cable TV. Whew, hope this helps! (P.S. Be sure to visit the nearby "Patricia’s Green In Hayes Valley Park." Get a coffee or juice, sit and people watch!)

For the price, this hotel met my expectations. We got a room with 2 rather comfy twin beds. It had a small table, dresser, sink, closet, and an optional connection to the adjacent room. There was a lockable shared bath/shower across the hall, as well as 2 lockable toilets. There is no elevator so the second floor is 3.5 flights up. When we arrived, the front door was locked, but there was a pin-pad. The hotel had emailed us the pin, but I don't have email on my phone. I called and they gave me the pin. There was an automated text for me to download an app to open the door to the room. There was no check-in, no-check out, and I have to say it was really nice to not have to go through all that rigmarole. The building is old, but charming. There are two restaurants on the first floor. The symphonies & opera-houses are nearby. A 5 minute walk to Market St gets you anywhere in the Bay Area. There's a boulangerie 1 block away for breakfast and a Salt & Straw 2 blocks away for ice cream. I'd get this room again.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay; although, we didn't spend alot of daylight hours in the room! The staff was very helpful before we arrived answering questions about parking, transportation options, securing payment, etc. Upon our arrival, {Catherine } greeted us warmly and enthusiastically! She got us checked in smoothly and timely; and made "spot on" recommendations for things to do during our visit. Other staff were just as nice and helpful. The room was clean, smelled fresh and had just the right amenities. We stayed in the annex building with shared bathrooms, which was not the inconvenience we thought it would be. The complimentary breakfast provided the perfect morning stimulant to get the day started. This location is a short bus ride (on the #21) to Alamo Square Park, The Painted Ladies, Golden Gate Park, Union Square and lots of other San Francisco landmarks, which I hope you enjoy!

READ THIS REVIEW BEFORE BOOKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hayes Valley Inn is VERY VERY CLEAN, keep in mind YOU ARE BOOKING A FACILITY WITH SHARED BATHROOMS, so later on don’t complain about the SHARED BATHROOMS on your reviews because that's what you have booked for. If you want to be picky and special about shared bathrooms this is not the place for you just cash out on a better hotel like HOLIDAY INN especially if you're only paying 60-140$ a night in SF. There is NO PARKING AVAILABLE . ONLY STREET PARKING ON BUSY ROAD or a garage nearby that YOU pay for obviously. This place is STAIRCASE ONLY and will be annoying dragging your stuff up if you have packed heavy. Breakfast is great unless you’re expecting warm eggs & bacon, in that case go to STACKS right around the corner from them. INN breakfast is from 7am-10am meaning they close it at 10am so if you arrive for breakfast 10 mins before they close it will be your issue if you're left with scraps. The property has ACTUAL KEYS for the rooms with a $250 charge IF YOU DO NOT RETURN THEM TO THE FRONT DESK. So if you don’t return your keys or lose them EXPECT A 250$ CHARGE because that's what you SIGN FOR at Check In. Staff there are very nice from housekeeping to front desk, seems like they have young employees at reception, BARE with them maybe it’s their first job I don’t know but good conversations and the morning reception can give you a lot of SF info if needed. STANDARD ROOMS are small and cozy all single rooms are located in the back side of the building so if you want something quiet I suggest booking a double all queens face the street side so can be a bit nosier if you’re a light sleeper since the windows and walls are pretty thin. ECONOMY ROOMS ARE IN A DIFFERENT BUILDING.SO IF YOU BOOK ECONOMY you have to check in at the front desk and they show you how to get to your room building usually around the corner on Hayes street. Remember staircase only. I believe you share the bathroom with more people in ECONOMY MAKES SENSE since ECONOMY ROOMS ARE CHEAPER THAN STANDARD. There's also no breakfast room in ECONOMY ROOMS so you have to walk back to the Front desk building to have your breakfast. Overall the Inn is a very clean cozy small family home feeling bed and breakfast, somewhere you go if you're looking for a little get away to enjoy the city and go there to sleep, not a place to be in your room all day watching T.V overall you are visiting...

I stayed here years ago BEFORE the pandemic when I brought my daughter to college in SF. Then it was lovely with an amazing breakfast and tea time. All items were working and it was cozy. This trip was the complete opposite of that experience. They no longer have a breakfast or tea time. The community kitchen had no working coffee pot or hot water maker for tea. The dish washer was broken and the fridge was absolutely filthy and filled with the housekeeping staffs food and condiments. The first room I was assigned had a bed that was as hard as a rock. I was there for 5 days and absolutely could not sleep on it. I called and requested a room change and the next room had a bed that was better. The rest of the trip went well until upon packing for my return home I realized that my iPad was missing. I had not used it since the night I arrived and had placed in in my travel bag that I didn’t need to go into until I was ready to depart. ||As soon as I realized it was missing I called to report it.. this was September 24th. I have tried following up several times to never receive a call back from Linda the general manager. I was told by the agent who took my report there would be an investigation and a claim filed with their insurance for my stolen property and I have not heard a word from anyone. Even when I had to make a 3rd follow up call I was rudely questioned as to why I took so long to call back! Like it is my job to track down somone to to help me when I have been wronged. Absolutely unacceptable and unprofessional. No one gave a damn that my personal belongings were searched and my property stolen. It’s now October 10th and I have yet to hear back, ||This place is horrible as a business and not safe for your personal property. There are no safes in the room so nothing is safe to be left there!!!! I will be leaving reviews one every platform there is to warn others to not stay here because LINDA AND HAYES VALLEY INN DOESN’T CARE ABOUT YOU JUST YOUR MONEY AND WHAT THEIR STAFF CAN...
