Turo Cafe has consistently been my favorite Filipino place. I have tried several places around the Bay Area and so far, this is the best. I have never dined in person, but I have ordered often through Door Dash. We also tried their catering service and our guests were raving about the food! 8oz serving is good for 1, but maybe not a lot if you're hungry. 16oz can last me 2 meals and most of their food freezes well.
Some of the food we have tried:
Jeprox - crispy and flavorful! Even after 20 minutes of travel. Pairs well with their vinegar and tomato.
Kare kare - not too salty, generous with the meat. The meat was very tender! I added more vegetables when it reached our place. It was good even without bagoong! I've tried it as small order and for catering (1 tray) and the taste is very consistent.
Pork sinigang - my favorite Filipino food! Get your rice ready, it was sour to my liking! The 8oz is already filling and enough for 1 person
Chopsuey with Tofu - this was a special request for catering, the guests loved it and the vegetables were cooked well (not soggy). Tofu was crunchy on the outside, soft inside.
Bicol express - I expected it to be spicy, good thing it wasn't! It was very creamy, you can taste the bagoong in it. There was a lot of pork fat (good if you like the soft fatty meat!), had to look for the meat.
Laing - perfect!!! It was very creamy and tasty. Good to pair with garlic rice.
Lumpiang shanghai - good size and serving, crispy! I ordered the a tray and everyone loved it
My least favorite so far is the chicken sisig, it was bland and a bit hard to chew. We will try pork sisig to compare...
Read moreAre there any Filipino food lovers here???I used to love going to Lucky Chances Casino in Daly City. No,not to gamble. Although I do believe I was born with "gambling in my blood"! I'd go there for the food at the Cafe and usually order the Sinigang. It's a soup that is sour and salty and has strong flavors of vinegar. It's my favorite Filipino dish and I love it even more than Shanghai lumpias!
One of my favorite places for Filipino food is Turo Cafe and Grill. No frills place that makes homemade Filipino dishes. They have your usual standbys like pancit noodles, pork and chicken skewers, and lumpias. They also freshly make other items like sisig or kaldereta and many more items.. You can also get 1 or 2 item plates that comes with a choice of pancit or rice or both. I recommend you try their sinigang, you might...
Read moreI used to order from them all the time until 3weeks ago. I waited for my order, found out from a text from GrubHub that they cancelled my order. I called the restaurant and asked why they cancelled, the guy was very nonchalant and said they were out of a vegetable. I told him but I had 3 orders, they cancelled my whole order just for 1 item?! And no one even called me?!! He just kept saying they were out of the vegetable so they cancelled, he was unapologetic - I was so angry I just hung up. There was no loyalty to their customer - I order a lot from them on each order and I felt that was completely unprofessional and rude to just cancel my order without even reaching out to me first. It’s unfortunate because they were my favorite place to...
