What a gem!
I've probably passed this place many times now since I love Hawaiian Drive Inn which is right next door, but on a hot San Francisco day, I needed something a little more refreshing and bahn mi with a cold drink sounded amazing!
Walking in, you can immediately tell that it's a small operation, but what they offer is made extremely well in my opinion. I went with a #1, which is fancy pork with pate. If you opt for everything, you'll also get the regular fixins of carrots, cilantro, jalapeno onions, cucumbers, and mayo. I also paired it with a deep roasted oolong milk tea with boba.
The boba came out first, on first sip, it wasn't too sweet and you could definitely pick up on the roasted oolong flavor - definitely one of the better versions I've had, which actually puts a fair number of boba places to shame. The boba also had the right chew and sweetness. Shortly after, the sandwich came. On first look, I was a little disappointed at how thin the fancy pork was sliced, but otherwise, there was a good amount of pate and it was well stuffed with the fixins.
But when I picked up the sandwich, that's when the magic happened! The bread crackled with a beautiful symphony of sounds and the everything just fell into place after. Overall, it was delicious. If I could change anything, I would probably ask for a little more mayo (kewpie...
Read moreI miss Westernize dishes. Banh Mi are one of my fav sandwiches of all time and when I recently went to Vietnam, I was shocked that they do not serve it in a similar manner. I now know that i dont care if its authentic or not - i just care which one taste better to me.

Ty Sandwich is a great addition to the excelsior district. I dont know any good places in SF, besides down in south bay. I think this place is better than all the dinosaur places. This place be stackin' meat. Most places usually dont put enough, but here they pile it mile high. I ordered #6 which is the grilled pork for $4 - not bad considering its SF and they put a lot of meat. The meat is a little on the sweeter side compared to others, but that might be because there is a lot of meat. There is enough meat to take some out and make another one. Everything is pretty standard with the veggie, jalopeno and cilantro. Bread is served hot and fresh. Crispy and fluffy. ITS SO FLUFFY!!!!
They have been open for 2 months now, they know nothing about yelp. I told them how Important it is to maintain a good profile and they seem to be doing a great job so far. I will be coming back for some...
Read moreTY Sandwich just rocketed to my fave banh mi shop in SF. I was a Saigon Sandwich devotee, with the occasional interlude to Dinosaurs for convenience sake. But lately I've felt SS's bread has gone down in quality and the sandwiches are becoming more sauce than meat.
TY captured my mouth and heart with their grilled pork--super marinaded, tender, with a char-grilled taste. The meat is a cut above the usual banh mi shops, which tend to feature thin sliced meat with its far share of fat and gristle. I usually add pate to the sandwich. The pate is solid, but could be a little more peppery. The perfectly crisped bread, large sandwich chock full of just picked veggies top it off. The service is sweet and friendly; they granted me my extra jalapeno request. The mayo is light here, for those who prefer less sauce. Sandwiches run about $4.50.
Parking is mildly annoying around here, but can be had on Mission or one of the...
