We came here for a surprise birthday brunch and were able to secure a bunch of tables in the back. The downside to getting the tables in the back was that it's right next to where the restaurant connects with the hotel next door, which is also the only way to get to the restrooms that the restaurant uses.
The drinks were flowing, however there was hardly any alcohol in the drinks... Huh? This is brunch. And we're in SF. That's just not cool. Bloody Mary's tasted like liquid pizza, and my mojito tasted like liquid Dentyne.
As far as food goes, it was OK. My BF ordered the 0.5lb burger, and I got the salmon chopped salad. I didn't think the salmon had much flavor to it, and the vinaigrette wasn't anything special. The burger was actually really tasty. I really got a taste of the meat, which I appreciate. The burger came with a side of shoe-string fries which were tossed with sauteed onions. They were really tasty.
Overall, this place OK. I can understand why it's attached to a hotel, as I'm sure it is easy to please the masses with it's medium-sized menu. I probably wouldn't spend the money myself to come back here.
I just want to add that our waiter (the older one that is from Barcelona) was absolutely hilarious. We'd come back for him,...
Read moreShort on time, we opted to have dinner at Urban Tavern, the restaurant housed within the Hilton San Francisco Union Square. It was a surprisingly pleasant experience. Being greeted & seated was pretty instantaneous, but I would recommend sitting farther away from the street entrance during the winter months - a draft blows in every time someone opens the door. Service was above average. Our waiter was friendly, and when food allergies were mentioned, he checked with the kitchen twice to make sure the selections made were a-okay to consume.
I ordered the half chicken, which came with a side of green veggies (broccoli, I think) and mashed potatoes. It cost $24, which isn't too different from NYC prices, so that wasn't too out of this world for me. My dining companion ordered the fish & chips and that entrée looked pretty tasty - flakey fried fish, and thickly-cut potato wedges. The chicken was a hearty portion, and well-cooked. There was some gravy on it, and I used that to flavor up the sides.
If in the area again, I would definitely visit...
Read moreI decided to eat here due to it being at my hotel. I made the right choice. When you walk in, you’ll notice a hipster atmosphere. It’s not bad or anything, but you might not expect it. The menu might also come of as strange for people who aren’t used to very hipster style food. Luckily, I’m used to it. I ordered the 8 hour bolognese. When they slow cook tagliatelle for 8 hours, you know that it’s gonna be good! It was surprisingly one of the best pasta dishes I’ve ever had! Plus, the fries are OUTSTANDING (I tried my dad’s fries). However, DO NOT SKIP DESSERT! All of them are incredible. I got the Coconut-Guava Roche. It’s basically coconut and guava mousse with bits of tapioca and gelatine. It was AWESOME! So was my brother’s S’mores Sundae (marshmallow flavoured ice cream with toasted marshmallows and graham crackers) and my parents’ Carrot Cake (not what you’d expect a carrot cake to look like, but don’t let it fool you!)! I will have to recommend Urban Tavern to everyone I know....
