Another Cambodian restaurant we visited recently recently. This time, it was Bayon Temple. I love that my non Cambodian partner is teaching us about Khmer food lol. We really appreciate Khmer restaurants offering vegetarian options so non meat eaters can still enjoy Khmer flavors.

When I approached the restaurant, I heard a sound pattern repeat several times: *bounce* *squeak* *pause* *bounce* *squeak* *pause*. When I had a clear view of the door, I figured out what I was hearing: a man standing in front of the main door on the sidewalk was throwing a dog toy *into* the restaurant, and his off-leash dog was going in the restaurant to retrieve the toy. As I walked past the guy, the dog jumped up on my leg and bit my knee, tearing my jeans. I entered the restaurant, pulling the door shut behind me to keep the dog out (it had been propped open). I asked the hostess who this guy was..."my boyfriend". I did not sample the food.

The ‘revisit intention’ is strong for this place. The food they serve here is not only tasty, buy it is as comfy as an old hassock. The tamarind garlic chicken wings has a sweet-sour flavor that makes the wings uniquely savory. The house special chicken fried rice is chewy in texture with tender pieces of meat. Samples of Cambodian art, such as textiles, and ceramics form part of the decor. Timely service is yet another reason to visit this place.

I will definitely need to go back because I forgot to take pictures of the delicious food we had. It was our first time and we were a bit skeptical about how authentic and tasty the food might be - to say we were pleasantly surprised is an understatement!

The chicken and beef skewers were packed with flavor (we ended up ordering more mid meal).

We also ordered the chicken Cha Kroeng which paired beautifully with just jasmine rice.

The price point is perfect for an evening out if you’re not keen on burning a hole in your pocket. The only thing that I couldn’t make sense of is why this restaurant wasn’t packed out and why there weren’t lines around the block of people waiting to get in - either this place is a hidden gem or people prefer to order take out (not that I’m complaining, as it meant we were seated and served very quickly)

Can’t wait to go back and try out the other dishes...

Don't you think you should tell people if you have crab in your papaya salad? You already list the ingredients on the menu, yet you fail to mention the one ingredient that could cause the most severe allergic reaction in the world. Not only we had to clean our table (the one next to the back door - you can check your cameras and see for yourselves) from all the dust and dirt, but my wife was seconds away from being taken to the hospital because we assumed the salad had the ingredients listed on the menu. Luckily, I was the one who tried it first. I always give a chance. I always communicate with the owner before giving a bad review, and this review would've never been written if it wasn't for the rude response by the owner. Are you really blaming us instead of apologizing? Shame on you. You'll never see us again, or anyone else we know...

I decided to eat here on a whim with my family and stopped by on a Sunday evening. The restaurant was not crowded which I liked given the pandemic situation we are in(cases are on the rise again!!)

Immediately after we entered the restaurant, we were transported to Cambodia with their interior decor. The lady in the restaurant was very friendly and greeted us multiple times throughout our dinner, That was really nice of her!!

For the food, we ordered the chicken kabob which was a favorite among my kids! It was very soft, juicy, and flavorful, perfectly cooked as well. we also ordered the ground chicken Cha Eark and that was also very flavorful! The last dish was Cha ma Kathang (recommended by the server) with Shrimp which we felt was okay. Overall a nice dinner and would come back again and would recommend...
