Wow! Amazing food. We didn't even know they were opening a Dough Zone in San Jose; it's near Bass Pro. We tried two other nearby restaurants that were way too busy and ended up in the area to look for something to eat. We were so excited to see they were open. We went to their soft opening tonight and everything was delicious. The green onion pancakes are crispy delights. The non-spicy beef pancake roll was a unique flavor with a very slight mintiness. Very good. All of the Xiao Long Bao were very flavorful. The Q Bao were my favorite; soft and tender on top and crispy pan fried on the bottom. The flavor was nice and complex and they're juicy like the Xiao Long Bao. Addictive! The Noodles with Onion Soy Sauce were devoured by the three year old. She adored them. The Dan Dan Noodles were a bit spicy but the flavor was still really good. Not just hot. We all liked the dumplings too. There was nothing we didn't like. We even had a banana dessert that was super yummy; banana inside a pancake and fried. I could have eaten more of those. The wait staff were great and the food came out quickly too. We will most definitely be back. We're all talking about making another trip up there tomorrow. Lol Can't...
Read moreOverall, I would say this restaurant is more authentic than Panda Express, but it is still not truly authentic. I ordered the xiao long bao and the beef noodle stew.
Typically, xiao long bao is served with a soup base that is too hot to eat right away. When you bite into it, you’re usually met with a burst of flavorful soup inside, complemented by the pork filling. However, what I ordered did not meet those expectations. The soup inside was very plain and tasted slightly sweet and salty. It was missing the depth of flavor and spices that are usually present.
The same can be said for the beef noodle stew. The soup was disappointing. At authentic Chinese restaurants, the beef is often braised overnight—sometimes for days—and the broth is rich, spicy, and salty, often topped with chili oil. However, the soup I got was very plain, with only a slightly salty taste, similar to Japanese ramen. It was more like a pho broth: mild and lacking bold flavors.
In summary, I think this restaurant caters more to non-Chinese customers. If you’re looking for authentic Chinese cuisine, this might fall short. However, it could still satisfy your cravings if you’re not too particular about...
Read moreThis place is absolutely amazing, the food is so delicious, and it is now my new favorite place to go for comfort food in south San Jose! My friend and I went earlier tonight for their soft opening. Everything was so good, very rich in flavor, and we honestly felt really full and satisfied after eating there. They provide very good customer service and frequently check on you. They were very busy so there was a little bit of a wait but after eating there, I honestly think it was worth the wait! Everyone is very attentive, very customer oriented and sweet, and I love that even though they were adjusting to opening this location this week they still made us feel like our presence and time was valued and we felt pretty comfortable and welcome there. I would definitely recommend the pork soup dumplings, pan fried chicken potstickers, spicy (ma la) noodles, chicken & vegetable wontons in chicken broth, banana naan bread (it comes with whip cream and is a very yummy dessert), and so many more things that we tried. Also their cold milk tea was very sweet and smooth! Thank you so much!! We will be coming back again for sure and...
