The Kebab Shop — Restaurant in San Jose

This place gets it. We ordered wraps (1 chicken, 1 lamb) with a side of falafel. Fresh, tender lavash. Tender meats shaved from spinning döner kebab grills. Fresh veggies. I recommend the pickled onion on the wrap. And as much tasty sauce as you want: spicy cilantro (mild, very good), garlic yogurt (very garlicky), spicy chili (didn't try).

And why do I have to go to Almaden Ranch to find some of the best falafel? I've eaten falafel over decades and continents, experiencing regional variations with so many shapes and ingredients, some good, some bad, and too many awful (mealy, dry, stale, chewy). These are some of the best I've had. Small and round, like they're scooped with a cookie scoop, crispy outside, tender inside, not too salty, perfect dipped in those limitless sauces.

Prices were reasonable. I've paid as much for a couple of "little" cheeseburger meals at 5 Guys.

Interior is utilitarian with a few regular tables and a long high top table. The pickup area mixes with the drinks & sauce area, so it can get crowded with delivery drivers standing in front of the dispensers while staring at their phones.

Parking and access can be a pain. The jokers who laid out the Almaden Ranch/Bass Pro parking lots should be punished.

Overall, I can't wait to go back and try some of their other sides and...

What a superb meal! Wow! I am so glad my first 2023 review is about Kebab Shop because I absolutely loved the food here. We came here for the first time and ordered a plate and the mixed bowl with chicken.

For the plate we got a chicken skewer, rice and hummus. For the bowl it was rice, greens, chicken and pickled onions! The chicken is one of the best I have ever had... so tender, so juicy and just perfectly cooked. Even after eating this, we only wanted more!

We came here around 6pm or so and got the rush hour crowd so lots and lots of people waiting for their orders. Having said that, our order took quite some time to come in but it was so worth it. With their see through style kitchen you could tell that every meal was being diligently hand crafted. Oh, and did I mention the sauces ? Yummmmm! The garlic yoghurt was delicious along with spicy cilantro and spicy chili. The run out pretty quickly so management can keep an eye and should fill them quicker as I saw many people coming to the station and going back empty handed to their tables. They are delicious and definitely a must try!

I have already recommended this to my friends and family and can't wait to be back. I know this is going to be one...
