I recently had the pleasure of discovering Hella Good Burger during the NFL Divisional Playoff Round, and it turned out to be an absolute gem for burger enthusiasts like myself. Nestled in San Pedro Square Market, the name alone set high expectations, and I was not disappointed.

I'm a bit torn over this review, but I can't let them off the hook. There aren't very many places where I can get a good pastrami sandwich. As much as I like Togo's, I've got to venture out and spread my wings every so often.

As a side note, I couldn't order another burger because I had just eaten a burger at a different spot a few days ago. If I return to order a burger at a later time, I'll change the review because you should always try to order the house special during a review.

As far as the sandwich is concerned, it was in my top three. The buns they use at this place are spectacular and the sandwich was fresh off the grill. I might add that it was fresh because there was hair in the first one they made, so I got another really quickly.

The cooks apologized, but if you're not going to wear hair nets (which I don't necessarily mind), these things happen. As an owner the cost will come out of your bottom line, so it's really up to managers to decide if it's worth it.

While the sandwich was top notch, it was also over priced. It was $15 for an a la carte sandwich. I'm over the opinion that all burgers and sandwich orders should come with a side. It seems like it's a pretty easy value add, but I also don't know the price of potatoes right now.

Visiting my sister here on the left coast and we decided to pop into San Jose's super cute San Pedro Square. We heard music coming from the back porch on the north side and wandered into the Market building only to find a plethora of great smelling shops on our way to the music. Being famished from the long travel day i had quite the appetite. We saddled up to Hella Good Burger and ordered. I had the blue cheese burger while listening toa a fun yacht rock band. The food came out plenty fast just as I was getting my first sip of beer while getting to know the band. The burger was great and the fries and shake as well. The burger has plenty of blue cheese, creamy but not thin, and a great spread of bacon bits and sweet grilled onions. The buttered and grilled bun held up well while I munched on the 1/3 pound patty.

A bit more than half the time I go out for a burger or a steak I'm thinking in the back of my head 'I make better meat than this.'. Tonight was one of those other nights.

Will we return to the cute San Pedro Square? You bet! Will we return to Hella Good Burger? If I'm looking for a satisfying patty with great flavor...
