Living in San Jose, I've tried every Mexican restaurant you can imagine. Luna Del Mar recently opened up down the street and I decided to give them a try, not expecting much. I was pleasantly surprised at the level of service, ambiance and most of all, quality of the food. This was NOT like any of the typical Mexican restaurants that I've been to, and that is a very good thing in this case! When the rice and the salad arrived, I was amazed at how distinct and delicious they both were. All the meat and seafood was extremely fresh, and you could tell there was a homemade touch. The decor is also very inviting and the vibe is very lively with karaoke being sung. It was also very clean all around and inside the restroom as well. Aside from the delicious and different food, the best part was the service provided by Nellie. She was extremely sweet to me and my wife from the moment we ordered until the very end. She recommended her favorite dish, which was a bacon wrapped jalapeño and shrimp plate, which I forgot the name of, but you should definitely ask about! The salsas are all homemade and very flavorful as well! I can't say enough good things about Luna Del Mar and Nellie's outstanding service. We're definitely going to go back and try all the dishes that seem most unfamiliar to us, I'm sure we'll enjoy them all judging by the quality of the dishes we had tonight. Definitely come and support this business, I know I will be a regular there from now...

I strongly suggest you visit their location as soon as you can... before the word gets out and there are lines around the block. This is, bar none, some of the best seafood I've had in the Bay Area. The shrimp (camarones) are beautifully cooked with the same care other places reserve for lobster... well worth a try whether you're having them in tacos or alone!

We had the mummy shrimp entree and fish filet w/garlic sauce entree. The fish only came with one filet but I saw an earlier post that showed 2 filets which would better match the cost. Both were cooked perfectly. The fish was super moist and flavorful. Shrimp were good size. Maybe a hint too long in the fryer but still yummy. Sides of rice, crinkle fries, and salad were also delicious.
