Mylapore Restaurant: A Must-Visit Haven for South Indian Vegetarian Cuisine in San Jose I went with my parents who heaped praise on quality and taste
In the heart of San Jose, Mylapore restaurant offers a warm and authentic South Indian dining experience that leaves a lasting impression. Known for its high-quality vegetarian fare, Mylapore stands out as a gem in the Bay Area for those craving traditional South Indian flavors. As someone who has tried a variety of dishes here, I can confidently say that the experience, from the ambiance to the food, is impeccable.
One of the standout features of Mylapore is the dosa. Perfectly crispy on the outside, with a tender, flavorful filling inside, the dosas are a testament to the mastery of South Indian cooking. Whether you opt for the classic Masala Dosa or the more adventurous variations, youâre in for a treat. The accompanying chutneys and sambar are spot on, bursting with flavor and made fresh. The sambar is especially noteworthy for its balance of spice and tanginess, elevating the dosa experience.
In addition to dosas, Mylapore excels in its meals (also known as thali). The thali offers a little bit of everything: rice, vegetables, lentils, chutneys, papadam, and more. Each dish is distinct yet harmonious, creating a well-rounded meal that leaves you feeling satisfied but not overly stuffed. The attention to detail is evident in the balance of flavors, from the mild tang of the rasam to the rich, creamy payasam that rounds off the meal. Every element is perfectly spiced, giving you a true taste of South Indian home-cooked food.
The filter coffee at Mylapore deserves special mention. What sets it apart is the option to customize the strength of your coffee to your liking. Whether you prefer it strong and bold or with a touch of sweetness, you can adjust it by adding sugar or jaggery, creating a personalized cup that pairs perfectly with the meal. The fact that you can choose between sugar and jaggery is a thoughtful nod to tradition, catering to both modern and more health-conscious diners. This level of customization is rare in most restaurants and truly makes the coffee experience at Mylapore exceptional.
The ambiance at Mylapore is welcoming and family-friendly. Itâs the type of place where you can bring the whole family for a relaxed weekend brunch or stop by for a quick, delicious meal after a busy day. The service is attentive, yet not overbearing, and the staff is more than happy to explain the dishes to those who may not be familiar with South Indian cuisine. Their warm hospitality further enhances the dining experience, making you feel right at home.
In terms of cleanliness and organization, Mylapore maintains high standards. The restaurant is always spotless, which, combined with its inviting atmosphere, makes for a comfortable dining experience. The prices are also reasonable, especially considering the quality and variety of food on offer. Youâre truly getting value for your money.
In conclusion, Mylapore Restaurant is a must-visit for anyone looking to indulge in authentic South Indian vegetarian cuisine in San Jose. From the perfectly crafted dosas to the well-balanced meals and customizable filter coffee, every detail has been thought out to ensure a top-notch dining experience. Whether youâre a long-time fan of South Indian food or new to it, Mylapore will leave you impressed and eager to return.    Read moreFood Masala Dosa: The dosa was bigger than the plate which is always a nice touch. The masala(potatoes) were underneath the dosa. Dos was nice and crispy on the edges and bit soft in the middle. I wouldâve liked it if the entire dosa was a slightly softer. Jain Sambar was pretty nice, not overly salty/spicy. Two types of chutney coconut and I believe tomato?
Idly Sambar
Plate comes with. Two soft idly served on top of a banana leaf with a small dollop of Idly podi in the middle and the two chutney with sambar on the side. I love the colors of this dish white, green, orange and red. As pleasing as this looks it tastes just as good. Eat it fast or itâll get cold!
Medhu Vada This order comes with 4 very crispy and not too oily Medhu Vadas. This was spicer than the Masala Dosa and Idly. No need to rush to eat this. After I cut/bĂĽit into one, the steam from the inside fogged up my glasses! This will fill you up, it did for me!
Masala Chai, Masala Coffee Honestly nothing too special about this. They do give you an option for milk alternatives ( regular and oat milk I believe). They offer brown sugar and jaggery which is a nice touch. Bathroom Bathrooms were kept nice and clean, away from the eating areas.
Restaurant Can get very busy! Sometimes the waitlist can be up to an hour on certain day/hours of the week. A few tables outside. Inside =roughly 26 tables, few half/full booths, and one seat at the standing bar. #23 is an example of how a regular table looks and trust me that surface area can get filled fast! I ordered 4 dishes and had to play Tetris. Parking closer to the restaurant can be a bit tight. However, you have a giant parking lot as it is in a shopping center. Park far and walk off your food afterwards ;).
There is a takeout ordering section if you wanted to skip the line, clean and tidy utensils area, lunch thali, dosa happy hour, and a fridge filled with food ready for takeout. They also, sell various achaar, and other cooking ingredients.
Service The staff is nice, they walk around and offer extra chutney, and sambar. Sometimes the staff goes around and offers free lemon rice to customers who are still waiting to be seated.
Overallâ¨Place is really good, tasty food, great staff and atmosphere. I have skipped on this spot a few times because of the...
