My family was extremely excited to visit this restaurant because my mother is a huge fan of Ms. Xuan Hong. Needless to say, we did not have a good time here.
Pros: Pricing was rational Food comes fast Their sour soup (canh chua) was cooked the way I remembered when I was back home Vietnam There was parking
Cons: Waiters are slow, unhelpful, unenthusiastic Other dishes were unremarkable (fish, chicken and molluscs) The tables and floor were not very clean The manager was extremely unacceptably rude.
I would like to expand on my experience. I do not mind mediocre food or seemingly un-hygienic place of business, however what is absolutely unacceptable to me was the manager's attempt to make small talk with my family while we eat.
While we were enjoying our meal, he came to greet my parent and said in verbatim translation "hello, are these two flying ducks (disrespectful sexist slang to refer to girls) your only kids? Where are the boys". He proceeded to ask where I attend for school, where my sister is going for college, her SAT score and her high school GPA. He then suggest that our education is not up to par at UCLA law and UC San Diego because Duke is the best school. He told us about his daughters in Carolina and began making comparisons.
This is unprofessional and absolutely unacceptable. We came to eat, not to be interrogated and insulted. We will not be coming back and I will be informing my friends and family about this incident. The food did not live up to the hype, the service was terrible and the manager was insulting. I absolutely do not recommend...
Read moreIn the week of Thanksgiving, I and my family went to Nha Trang Restaurant, the environment was completely different as before. It wasn't crowded as before as well. The foods were still tasty but the prices was ridiculous expensive as before. Especially the lobsters, when they scaled the weigh of the lobsters which was a lot over actual weigh of the lobsters. And another thing, the owner of this restaurant automatically added at least 15% tips onto the bill but service was extremely horrible. Our tea pot was empty and we asked for refill up to 3 times but no one came and refill it for us, however our table was very closed to the cashier counter. We had to bring this tea pot directly to the cashier counter then cashier lady assigned someone to refill it. I highly recommend you don't try their lobster and don't take your family to this restaurant if your family have more than 4 people. I believe if your family have around 6 people they will automatically add the tips onto your bill. 15%(+) tips was not bad but the services wasn't price for 15%(+). I also think the owner of this restaurant took out a portion of the tips out from the waiters that maybe a reason for all the waiters didn't use all of their efforts to...
Read moreThis place was pretty clean for a hole in the wall Vietnamese place. The funny thing is their bathroom is a lot nicer than the atmosphere of the restaurant. The food on the other hand, was alright not thing really stood out to me. Their "thit bo luc lac (Vietnamese shaking beef)" was better than most places; however, the seasoning was here and there. Some pieces have more seasoning than others. Overall the bo luc lac was good. The meat was medium rare, cut in bit sized pieces, and had slight smoky flavor. The vegetables it comes with is sauteed onions, bell peppers, and cilantro, having the same seasoning as the beef made it not stand out, and that causes a you to get bored of the flavor. The rice was orange rice, but it was normal rice with food coloring. I could tell because there was a patch of white rice. One negative thing about the bo luc lac was the fries they served me were cold, and it happened twice.
The service was like any other Asian place, so if you've had service from similar places then you'd like it here. If you haven't, then its pretty much they wont get you anything unless you ask; they don't have personal servers, so they wont be constantly checking up on you even if you're the...
