Shake Shack Campbell — Restaurant in San Jose

We visited your location on Hamilton and Bascom Ave, on Sun. Feb. 2, 2025. I had heard great things about your business, but there were too many aspects I didn’t care for.

1. We ordered to dine in, but were given a to go bag at our table. When I told the person that we had ordered to eat there, he seemed a bit confused and asked me if I wanted a tray. I said yes. He came back with literally one tray, even though there were two of us.

2. I am very disappointed with the price and quality of the food. While my girlfriend enjoyed her chicken sandwich, I had ordered a SmokeShack burger. What I received was something that looked and tasted like a typical McDonald’s hamburger, except for the cherry peppers. It was tiny and absolutely not in any way worth the nine dollar charge, considering how much a single hamburger at McDonald’s cost. Taste wise it wasn’t any better than a McDonald’s burger, and I am not a fan of McDonald’s. I felt like I was eating a children’s portion that went down in about three bites. The cheese fries were OK at best. They were not hot, but warm bordering on lukewarm.

The cheese sauce was OK, but could’ve been gotten at any truckstop or convenience store. Nothing about this was worth anything close to the price that you’re charging for it. The prices charged should reflect something of a better quality and better dining experience. The location and inside were very nice and denoted a classier establishment. The food, however, was of the kind that could be gotten at any of the cheaper fast food establishments. I really hate to make this type of a review, but the prices charged should reflect something of a better quality and better dining experience, and I had to be honest in what I felt about it.

3. While not a big problem, I was a bit dismayed when I asked what type of cheese was used on burgers. The server had no idea. He asked one of the cooks. She seemed equally confused and kept asking him what he meant. He kept asking what type of cheese you use she said “We have cheese?“. Then finally I was told it was American cheese, which is exactly what I expect at a cheap location, not something you would usually find at a place that has a reputation that you have for better burgers.

Just to note, the customers sitting next to us seemed to have an issue with a mixed up order regarding drinks. While attempting to rectify the issue, the server finally informed them that you didn't have the advertised drink in stock.

I ordered 2 separate orders both took much longer than online estimate. I waited over 25mins for both I was told would be ready in about 7mins. Burger was bland and MID at best. Fries were good but I seem to have gotten shorted compared to everyone else's portions I saw. When I brought this up and asked for a replacement for lukewarm fries, I was met with a curt and disrespectful attitude from manager. She refused to simply exchange the fries for another one that was prepped already. I asked for a refund for the fries and chicken bites which were small, burnt and tasted like dirty oil. Manager had an attitude and took her time to give me a refund while arguing why she could not simply replace the order with a new one. After she took the items back she put them to the side in the prep like she was going to save or reuse them. They were not disposed of until I made a loud statement about the unsanitary standards. Slow prep team playing around,joking and long prep times. Overpriced, Bland food. Dipping sauces were mid, Fries were the best thing but was skimped and colder...

We ordered from kiosk and waited for our food to come. A half hour passed and nothing. I went up to register to inquire and the cashier couldn’t find my order despite my email confirmation. Order #33885984203964418. She couldn’t find it and asked the manager. Meanwhile a huge crowd of customers were waiting for their food and the kitchen was chaotic. The manager finally came to talk to me and they found my ticket lying on the counter forgotten. There was no apology for losing my order. I asked for a refund and it took her another 5 min. The restaurant was poorly run, tables unwired, men’s bathroom garbage was overflowing. No attention to detail. I was at another Shake Shack location (Westgate branch) and orders took a long time too and portions were small. I am so disappointed with the decline of Shake Shack.
