Growing up in the Bay Area, The Garret was originally located in the Pruneyard.. a very cool pizza place, remembering the huge projector screen, the heavily epoxied wood tables, locking in carved words, names and messages in the wood. Ordering from a huge menu board, with wood button prices.. anyways. Good memories and good times. They went thru a couple owners, and I believe the rent kept going up. IDK, but they closed down. The excitement of them re-opening just down the street.. was just an awesome feeling. I took my family and friends for the first time, it just wasn’t the same. Different environment, different pizza.. which is actually why it so much better. We go here every time we want great pizza. Great beer, and great service. They won’t yell out Norm (your name), every time you come in.. but they will make you feel welcomed.
Small kids arcade.. Place can get packed.. seats can be a hit and a miss. Like Sports: Tv’s always ready. If you order before you dine in, is a win. Always a 25 to 30min. Wait. Getting it for take out is also eliminates the seating stress.
Nice beer selection. Pizza is worth the high cost. Jakes Pizza has got the recipe down. I don’t recommend the Chicken.. always over cooked and just tough.. not a good taste. But there is plenty of different options.
Open late is a plus.
I recommend to add this...

2 Large pizzas = $60 dollars if you can call it "Pizza". It was one of the WORST pizzas I have ever had in my life. Frozen, under-cooked crust; lack of flavor; lack of ingredients however, the ingredients were lacking in quality, therefore, it turned out to be less 'garbage' on the plastic cheese covering the cardboard, barely smeared with tomato sauce. 1 Pitcher of beer - $11.50 1 Large Coke = $3.00 1 Table adorned with a 75 watt bulb interrogation light in our faces. We had to unscrew the bulb in order to prevent being blinded by the light. WEDNESDAY NIGHT - approximately four (4) kids screaming and running through the restaurant abusing the PAYING PATRONS' enjoyment of their meal, drinks and impossible conversation because it had escalated into yelling in order to hear and/or speak. The restaurant did not take control of the situation and get the parents to be responsible for their brats!
Advise to Owners: Get your restaurant under control. Not only is it disruptive, abusive and annoying to put up with screaming kids in a bar as if you are at Chuck E. Cheese. YOU NOW HAVE A LIABILITY ISSUE ON YOUR HANDS IF SOMEONE GETS HURT! Go to Pinocchio's in Gilroy and taste a REAL pizza.

Read moreThe food is great. Menu is large. Price is good for the food but THE BEER; oh the beer. They have a great selection and the best price I have ever seen on pitchers of premium brews like Lagunitas.
The atmosphere is quite laid back and you order at the counter, take a number, and they bring your food as soon as its ready. The interior reminds me of the set used in the TV show Cheers. They have video games and pinball machines, though a billiard table would be great addition. It's got a bit of sports bar feel but not overly so, they do have a few screens playing popular games. I think it's a great place for all people of all ages. Really a hidden gem, you might have to make a u-turn as it sits back from Bascom and faces the side street.
We have tried several menu items and found that the best so far for pizza - Gilroy special, for a sandwich - Philly Cheesesteak. Get the fries! The thick cut are great we order them a little crispy especially for carryout. The curly fries are very good too.
Dine-in for your first visit! Get a pitcher and a pizza! Doordash another day.
If you are in Willow Glen, Jake's is the same menu and quality though lacking the dine-in experience...
