My experience at the Courtyard hotel was slightly above average, but there are areas that could use improvement.
Every year, our teams from around the globe gather locally for a work function, and we search for accommodations in the Los Gatos area. My experiences have varied due to factors associated with hotel properties, but they generally fall on the average to low end of the spectrum. This time, I considered staying at the DoubleTree by the Pruneyard but opted for the Courtyard based on its location and the hotel pictures. Being well-rested was a priority due to the long work hours followed by commitments with the team. However, my experience with this particular property was mixed, and significant improvements in noise control are necessary before I consider staying here again.
My first impressions were positive. The property is located away from the Pruneyard, which helps reduce foot traffic noise and allows for quick access. The addition of a parking garage is welcoming, although parking should ideally be free. The lobby is clean, modern, upscale, and inviting. The front desk staff are friendly and efficient during check-in. Upon entering the rooms and turning on the lights, you're greeted with a well-thought-out spotlight effect, inviting you to unwind and relax. The ambiance of the rooms is excellent, and it's evident that a lot of consideration went into this aspect. I was particularly impressed by the technology integration of the Smart TV, which allows for control of local channels and popular streaming services through a single interface.
However, as I attempted to wind down and get some rest, reality set in. Despite assuming that the property would have adequate noise control and comfort, this was not the case. I immediately noticed a constant humming sound, making it slightly difficult to sleep. It took some time to identify the source, which turned out to be the ice machine in the hallway. Additionally, when the air conditioner kicked in, it was loud and noisy due to being integrated inside the wall. The rattling and vibrations of the walls were audible. Furthermore, despite being situated next to the highway, noise from passing cars became a problem, likely exacerbated by the other issues. While noise from other guests' rooms was audible, it was more tolerable compared to the aforementioned problems.
Regarding sleep comfort, the pillows felt insufficiently filled, providing inadequate neck support when using one and causing strain when using two. The comforter also lacked filling, giving the sensation of sleeping with thin paper covering the body. However, the mattress provided adequate support.
The bathroom shower area requires updating, with outdated flooring tiles showing signs of wear. Because there is glass next to the shower valve, you need to step into the shower to turn it on and immediately get blasted with cold water until the desired temperature is reached. You cannot operate the valve from outside the shower due to the glass wall next to it. The shower head distributes water unevenly, providing a subpar showering experience. While the mounted shampoo, conditioner, and body wash bottles are a nice feature, the poorly executed font color selection on the labels makes them difficult to read amidst the shower's blast. The USB-A charging ports on the clock nightstand are a nice addition to the room.
Would I stay here again? Likely not unless significant improvements are made due to feeling not well rested after each night. My search continues for the next business hotel that can be recommended to...
Read moreI’m really surprised there aren’t more critical reviews , it’s possible I’ve had a unique and awful experience though. ||Arrived late after a long flight could not get a luggage rack , had to walk everything up . The room absolutely Reeked of bleach and cigarettes like a gross motel . There was snot on the shower curtain , couldn’t open the window not even a crack for fresh air . No decent facilities for a coffee or tea in room the coffee machine was filthy the cups had some disgusting white residue in the bottom Like they were already used . On the second morning I ran into housekeeping outside my room who looked like she was heading our way so I asked her to please change the sheets , we needed towels and TP she asked what room number to confirm and she said she would go in there next as we are leaving for the day. I was shocked and angry when I came back at 8 pm that evening with a very tired child to see the room untouched And the room smells putrid from lack of air and no cleaning done . I complained as I was very irritated , the solutions offered were not realistic and included moving out room but we had a ton of stuff with us and moving when my six year old was half asleep and acting up wouldn’t work ||So i slept in the bed my daughter wet the prev night by accident as we had no new sheets it was still wet and uncomfortable the sheets were coming off the bed and I got no sleep ||We didn’t have one clean towel and then in the morning realised we also had no toilet paper ||I was so so angry , at 8 am the following morning we left for the day , we arrived back at 3pm to see again the room still untouched. At this point I hit the roof . The staff were ridiculously ill equipped to deal with the matter ||And the management were clearly unable . At this point we checked out despite the room being paid . I have never had a worse experience in my life . If we had gone camping we would have received better service , and had better facilities. Absolute worse experience of my life , I left with my things packed , crying , no apology , the woman manager Lana literally avoided me , turning her back every time I passed pretending to be busy every time I walked by with more belongings to the car. Refusing to address the matter . ||Don’t use this hotel it’s disgusting and the staff don’t know what...
Read moreMy parents arrived at this Marriott today, exhausted from traveling and had a dismally bad customer service and check in experience. The bathroom was dirty - the sink was covered in black stuff, obviously not clean - so my politely parents asked for housekeeping to come and clean it. When housekeeping scrubbed the sink, my parents were HORRIFIED to see that they used the TOILET BRUSH to clean the SINK. And they didn’t even get it clean - just smeared the black stuff around. What are they doing to your room when you’re not looking??? When my parents called the front desk, the manager did NOT think this was a valid complaint and dismissed their concerns - dismissing my parents with half-hearted service. Then when my parents went back to the room to rest, they discovered that their room (#414)’s adjacent room was undergoing repairs, with LOUD tool noises, and constant banging of the door opening and closing while my parents were trying to rest. To the other side of their room was the staircase and the door opening and slamming constantly too. When booking the room, my parents specifically requested a “quiet” room in order to avoid similar situations - obviously the booking staff ignored this request. Finally, when my parents mentioned the noise to the manager, asking for the hotel staff to keep the noise down, the manager said “if you don’t like the room, you can check out.” WOW - what happened to customer service? Or are they treating them particularly poorly? Taking advantage of people? I thought MARRIOTT had a brand focused on quality - which is why we book with Marriott and are long-time members. I guess we will NOT be looking forward to future...
