We decided to book through a site we had not used in awhile. A good deal is GREAT around the holidays, right? WRONG!!!||||Upon arriving, the check in process was fairly quick and simple with the young lady; nothing special or welcoming.||||Upon arriving at the room; we were glad as I had a class I needed to attend to and he had a long day at work!||||The room was gross, disgusting, smoky smelling, and as my husband touched the drape handle to move it; dust fell like snow! He started sneezing. I personally am not a smoker; so at that point I was freaking out as I smelled cigarettes had been smoked in that room at one point previous. The comforter was so nasty I would of never even wanted to sit on the bed much less sleep on it.||My husband did not wish to call the front so I did! I told the girl my concerns and she did offer to switch us rooms but by that time we were so grossed out and I was a bit emotional as I was scattering by then to do my meeting via zoom and work. I told her I just could not do it as I was so disgusted and he would return the keys right away. I am glad we brought 2 cars because I was sick with the idea of my choice in hotels and the outcome! ||||Lucky the place I booked through refunded me regardless of calling them to ask them to honor the refund first and they declined. Now I wish I would of taken photos. I mean my concerns didn't have to do with most handles missing on the furniture, etc..... It was legitimate! I don't smoke; I don't do dirty; and I refuse to settle for nothing less then clean and tidy especially during covid.||||I will tell you I am fair when it comes to reviews and I only write reviews when they are 5 star except today. I would of never wrote this review; I would of let the issue go as a loss of time should they have agreed to refund me under the circumstances. I don't believe in degrading a family business nor taking away from local businesses as I am a local bay area native. But I believe it was warranted. I feel bad as it is during the holidays but I stand to my code of expectation of cleanliness...
Read moreA quick review of this hotel, followed by a general review of staying in Silicon Valley.||||First: the Campbell Inn. A recent last-minute trip on business to Silicon Valley meant I didn't have many options when it came time to book a hotel room. Of the few places that were available in the area, this was the only one under $500 a night. My recent stay proved you don't always get what you pay for. ($283 for a single midweek stay) In most parts of the country, this room would have been a sub $60 a night budget property. The check-in staff was polite, and the process unremarkable, but the property is tired, almost humorously tired. (see photos) My room did have a flat-screen TV, and the commode had recently been updated, but everything else was worn and very outdated. All that said, the room was clean, and the bedding was fresh, and so I was ultimately satisfied. Breakfast was marginal but appreciated given the fact that most properties in the area charge a premium for it. I was also close enough to my client's location that the morning traffic wasn't an issue. A HUGE concern for this part of the country. ||||A quick primer for staying in Silicon Valley. ||||The Silicon Valley or South Bay is one of the most affluent areas in the world, as such, space, housing, and hotel properties are always in short supply. There really isn't an off-season for hotel properties because there is a woeful shortage of inventory for the sheer mass of people coming into the area daily. You should always book as early as you can, and you should also expect to have to pay exorbitant rates. (Motel 6 rooms often book north of $200 a night) When visiting for the first time, it is tempting to stay in much nicer, less expensive properties in surrounding areas, If you choose to do so, be ready for hellacious traffic. A colleague of mine stayed in Milpitas and attempted to commute into Cupertino for our meeting. Her 15-mile commute took 95 minutes. This is a beautiful place with wonderful people, but the urban density and subsequent congestion require a little extra planning...
Read moreI had been in the rooms here before when friends have stayed, but I’ve never seen a room in this bad of shape —outside maybe a hotel 6. Walking in I could see a layer of dust on and behind appliances, including the bed frame. Pillow had a mascara stain, and every towel had the same as well as toothpaste. No open outlets near the bed, which made it so I needed to move the mattress and use the one that the lamps were plugged into (one of which didn’t work). One side table was falling apart, and the bathroom door looked as if someone was trapped inside and tried to fight their way out. At night, a man (maybe late 20s, white, wearing a snapback, hoodie, and skinny jeans) whipped into a parking space near my room as I was using a vending machine and was talking to what appeared like…himself. And then at me. I ignored him, but I was sitting on a step in front of my room. His words were mostly unintelligible, but he continues to talk about women doing things that “aren’t okay.” After a while I got up and, too afraid to go back into my room with him there, went straight to the lobby to inform the front desk. I could either be assigned a new room, which was more of a hassle than I needed, or I could have an employee walk back with me and check to see if he was a guest. I chose the latter, however when we got back he wasn’t by his car anymore. I went back into my room and stayed there. Later, I heard him come out of one of the rooms next to mine and drive away. I assumed he was only there for that brief period until he came back around 11pm. At nearly midnight he was back and pacing around the rooms outside his, talking to himself yet again. Every time he would go back inside it he would slam the door. Luckily I heard nothing else the rest of the night. In the morning I woke up to use the bathroom and was greeted with a baby cockroach on its back.||||Unless I had someone with me, or was very desperate, I wouldn’t stay here again.||||Positives: air conditioning was good, bed was comfy, vending machine (while wonky) was...
