La Esquina — Restaurant in San Juan

We’ve been twice now - once around lunch and once for dinner. Both meals were fantastic.

For lunch we sat outside. They do allow smoking on one end of the patio. So that was not ideal. Otherwise it is a lovely outdoor space. We had the wonton spicy crab nachos, the Asian roasted boneless ribs (with truffle fries), and the Peter Pan roll. All were excellent.

For dinner we sat inside. This was a much busier visit, but staff was still quite attentive. We ordered an off the menu special of dumplings with the most tender meat in it, with a kind of truffle cheese sauce it sat in. My only complaint was that there were an odd number. 😂 Ordered the wonton spicy crab nachos again - definitely a new favorite. This time we were able to try drinks as well, sampled the Midori It’s Back and the Japanese Old Fashioned. I loved both - the lemon in the old fashioned reminded my husband of a medicine he had to take as a kid. 🤷‍♀️ (we just switched drinks for the second half 😂) Not all flavors for not all folks - I’ve heard Europeans complain about root beer and Dr. Pepper tasting like medicine so it’s all relative. Rounded it out with the Banana Bread Pudding - so rich and delicious. I should have had half what I did but it was so good. Definitely a thick bread pudding, thanks to the banana, but excellent. Could have the sauce on anything 😂
