Bluebird Pizzeria — Restaurant in San Leandro

I think the location is ideal. They were certainly busy! In-door dining had just reopened and although they technically had only 2 booths open for seating, there were way too many people inside waiting for orders and standing too close to us. Plus, someone came in for a pickup and rather than wait outside, she and her child sat in the next booth that was supposed to be closed. Overall, not a comfy situation. Apparently someone didn't show up for work and/or they were slammed, because the person making the pizzas was really mad at some of the kids working there. She was hurling obscenities left and right at the top of her lungs. Hummm... not a good first impression. As for the pizza, I thought is was good, not great. Swimming in grease. Some people like that but not my favorite. (Full Pepperoni, with half mushroom and jalapeno). You could tell the pizza maker was mad...it showed up on her unhappy food. Maybe we'll give it...

This is nicely decorated and very open. Service is pretty fast as well. I had two whole pies and two slices to try and cannolis for dessert. The grandma slice was very good right crisp taste and texture. Pepperoni slice was very good as well. Had the white pizza and BBQ chicken pizza pies. The white pizza was amazing. The sauce the flavours everything was there. BBQ chicken did not do it for me. I thought that all I could taste was the BBQ sauce and I understand that the point. White pizza and grandma slice ruled them all. It was this night I realized I did not like cannolis. They were done well and the plain was actually the best among the three but cannolis just don't do it for me. Still a great place one of the best pizza joints I have...

I had been meaning to try Bluebird Pizzeria for... Forever. Working in the 'Dro and living in Oakland makes it tough to make a jaunt up into downtown San Leandro, y'know? I'm glad I finally did though! The Italian inspired toppings were delicious, the red and white sauces both extremely tasty and well paired with the rest of the pizza, and the crust a pleasant combination of both structurally sound and delicious- no mere tool for transporting those toppings from the pizza box to my gullet.

On this outing my wife and I shared a Kellie Grrrl and The Boss. They have me looking forward to coming back and trying Grandma's pie and a few other things (like the connoli! They looked delicious behind the counter!). I think I might have found my...
