I was excited to try this place out when I realized there was a new Indian restaurant in San Marcos. I fell in love with Indian cuisine in London and have often found myself disappointed with the options here in North County. Suffice it to say I am disappointed no longer. This place is fantastic; from the food to the service to the Bollywood films playing on the big television mounted on the back wall. The service was polite, helpful, and prompt. The restaurant itself is clean, spacious, and comfortable, with pleasant if sparse décor (understandable in a new restaurant). I had a delicious lamb vindaloo that made me nostalgic for London; it was rich, spicy, and perfectly tender. My aunt, who is not usually a fan of curries, loved her kadai chicken. The naan was warm and soft with a nicely balanced texture: not too flaky but not too chewy either. The only minor complaint I have is that the restaurant is kept very cold; I recommend a light sweater to maintain comfort. But really, that's beside the point. This place serves up seriously good Indian food in an area that sorely lacks it, and I will...
Read moreUpdate: Ate lunch buffet 2 more times since the last review posted. Overall, good consistency on their food for all 3 visits. Their Channa Masala was solid, great Naan again, good Non-Veg dishes and their other curries were good as well. Their service improved since last I was here...the wait staff is more attentive.
Just ate here today at their Buffet. Good food. Great Naan, decent Palak Paneer, Very very good mixed veggie curry with Paneer, great plain rice and mango lassi and tea included. Not the best Indian food I've eaten by a long shot, but for $14, an good buffet with food that actually tastes different from each other. (Usually, the dishes a lot of North Indian restaurant buffet's consist of taste alike even though they're not at all supposed to) . A surprise was the Samosa and Pakoda. The Somosa was made with very tasty masala curry and the Pakoda was good as well. Overall, a great experience for walking into a place not expecting much. I recommend this spot for lunch buffet. Can't speak to the entree menu. Apologies for any...
Read moreThe tandoori chicken was very flavorful, however it is one of the only 3 chicken options. The other was Chicken Tikka. I was wondering which option would be an entree with a curry sauce. This was a grilled style chicken. The smell was really nice and the chicken flavorful and not dry not burnt. The veggies didn't do it much. I didn't know what the chicken would be like but I thought I'd be getting something like tikka masala, but oh well.
Although the chicken was really good, I won't rate the restaurant any higher than a two. The chicken is priced as an entree at 15.99but doesn't come with anything but the chicken. I had to order the Naan bread and rice for separate charges. Meaning if I didn't, I'd walk away with just a tray of small amount of chicken. My total was 25dollars and some change. Not worth it.
Especially since after rechecking their menu at home, they have the meal for 2 for 30dollars.
Iv never been to a restaurant that prices things like that. For the same 15dollars some other place would include the rice, bread and the...
