If you are seeking the most authentic, the best and most adventurous Thai dining location in all of upper San Diego county, this is the spot u need to go!!! This location is fairly new, having been open roughly three months shy of a year from when this review was published. The restaurant is fairly small and is smack on the corner of very busy, intensive traffic intersection, yet whenever I go (which is when I see the rush of vehicles originating from palomar airport road heading into my city of san marcos, coinciding with their happy hour) the restaurant is almost vacant! The general manager and I have come to agreement that those big circular decals they invested in for the purpose of sticking on the windows and the fact that they chose the location right in the corner of said busy intersection do them absolutely no good. It seems like the rush hour traffic is just so bent and focused on getting home or doing plenty of other things besides having adventurous Thai dining. Despite the fact that the place is right out of the corner of their eye, those people are missing out by not checking this place out! Seems like social media and the web may be better marketing strategies for them. As far as the food is concerned, it is by far the best thai food i have ever tasted, a complete foodgasm for lack of a better term. I usually get the chicke pad see yu with no spicy because i am not a big fan of spicy, but if you love spicy then they can make your entreè as spicy as you want it. The spring rolls complemented by the sweet sauce are also a really good appetizer. I usually attend this establishment for their happy hour and craft beers on draft. Their handles are usually rotating so do not be surprised if a couple weeks later you see a craft beer that was not there before. Due to the fact that this is a Thai restaurant, you can always find their signature Thai lager Singha on draft, which is very delicious by the way. Back then they only had four beers on draft but now they added two more for a total of six! My favorite one is the latitude 33 ipa. They also have a bunch of other crafts in bottles as well as wine. I highly recommend going during happy hour which is from four to seven post meridian pacific standard time because there beers are only three bucks a pint, which is almost a steal for quality craft beer. I also love the owners because they are very friendly as well as the staff that works there, that is another huge reason I go. I hope their business thrives so eventually they can sell the restaurant and move to Thailand, I can only hope for the best. Team pink always supports team purple!!!

Read moreWe live in Encinitas surrounded by many excellent Thai restaurants, but we make the drive to San Marcos to go to Onnys because of the cheerful welcoming employees, the excellent food in large portions. However We went there on September 2 and it was a completely different experience. The woman working was sour and miserable. We walked in at 2:10 and she promptly told us that they close at three and that’s when the employees get to eat. Following us was a very, very elderly couple, the man could barely walk, but they made an effort to come to this restaurant for their meal. They were obviously repeat customers and say at the bar, had a pint of beer and a light lunch. . They try to engage this miserable employee in conversation, but they could never get her to break a smile. The employee stress to them also they close at three and that’s when the employees get to eat. So the pressure was on! She made us feel unwelcome, and inconvenience to her and there was no way anyone could put a smile on her face. The Phai thai was outstanding, but my red curry was watery and completely lacking and a huge disappointment. We ordered three dinners to go. I was hoping my eggplant that I was going to eat The next day was going to be a winner. Everything I ordered was medium spicy. But you couldn’t even tell it was Thai food. No seasoning whatsoever. Lots of oil, but no flavor. The eggplant dish you could not find a single piece of eggplant except for the dark purple sections of the skin that had been cooked to death. So we threw in the trash $100 worth of food. I did not want to write this review, we loved this restaurant, but apparently things have changed. I called twice to speak to a manager or the owner and left my number and no one called me back. I wanted to talk to them in private about this experience so they would be aware of that day and it takes some corrective action, but no one has ever called me back. Hence I am hosting a review, we will...
Read moreThe reason this restaurant has 4.5 stars is because they give free ($3 value) drinks if you rate them and show them the rating. They then try to convince you to raise the rating. I gave a three star review because it was okay, but not a good enough value to deserve 4 or 5 stars and the owner was pretty rude despite my simple reasoning and honest opinion of my experience. That experience turned this into a two star review. This is absolutely not a five star restaurant. I let the server know that the pad see-ew was a bit too salty (but perfectly edible) but I didn't want them to take it back and try to fix it because my two-year-old and I were both exhausted and starving. The server was very nice and gave me some steamed rice to go along with the pad see-ew. It helped a lot and the meal was fine. I originally planned on ordering one or two more dishes but the small portions and "okay" food led me to just finish the one dish and leave. The decorations are great and the staff is super friendly. IMO a $13-$14 plate of pad see-ew should be either delicious or at least a generous portion, or both. You can get both at other Thai restaurants nearby, so why does this place deserve 4 or 5 stars?
Two stars for inflated ratings, small portions, and...
